How many point guards have ever had better seasons than the one Chris Paul just had?

I don't hate the pick, but I'd have taken Dwight over Cp3, just because I value big men more than point guards.

What does that matter? What if he has some weird accident or Beyonce drops Jay-Z and says quit bball and I will bang you every night? So he has had 1 year greater than anyone, I'll take the guard that has had the best year in the league for a decade and was productive until he was 40.

The point is that when everyone picks a guy who is retired or near retirement, they are basing the value on the pick on the guys career. When CP3 or any of the other super young guys get picked, a lot of people are going to value them on near (or at) the ceiling of their upside. I just don't know if that is fair, and was wondering what people think about it.

haha, if I could get him as a 24 year old I might, but rules state you only get them once they enter the NBA(if they're not yet in the NBA at age 24).

Okay I'm kind of pissed now because I'm next after Lurchy and BOTH of the players I was considering got OUTED in this thread, Howard and Mailman, fortunately I will get one of them, I'm not saying which I want more so as not to impact Lurchy's pick. Hopefully you guys do not spill out any more names, this becomes especially important as the rounds progress because selections get less and less obvious.

I think that, just like real life, these young players will get overrated.

I think it's close. Stockton is a better shooter, but Paul is a better slasher. Stockton is probably a slightly better passer and defender, but Paul is a better rebounder. Paul's stats are much more likely to improve than to regress. Stockton had great longetivity but variance plays a big part of that, and Paul doesn't seem to be injury prone or anything.

You're not getting it. In our league any pick is just as likely to have a "weird accident". The only thing you know about currently retired players is how their careers turned out in the situation they were in in real life, which is indeed valuable information and gives those players less risk than CP3 but it doesn't guarantee us anything.

Exactly. There has to be a cutoff date in which the player had to of played his rookie season so there is enough information on the player.

Assani said to not to consider fluke possibilities, and that someone who stayed healthy his whole career doesn't mean he will do the same in our league. Stockton is just as likely to be involved in a polygamy lawsuit as Paul is to quit bball for Beyonce.

People who think Kobe is even close to MJ are insane. Yes, insane.

No one "outed" Karl Malone, anymore than people are now "outing" Stockton.

Later on this stuff will matter, but anyone who thinks that Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Zeke, Ewing, blah blah are somehow gonna be forgotten is nuts. Big difference from saying in round 5 (200 players in) "wow, Brad Sellers is still available!".

If someone picks Paul, there's really no reason to wait to discuss why they chose him over Stockton, Nash, Payton, Isaiah is there? It's the obvious question.

But, carry on, I'll refrain from any more naming.

What do you think is a realistic floor for Paul?

What do you think is his expected career projection?

Forget being healthy, how about someone being able to consistently put up insane numbers throughout their career.

I'm not knocking CP3, hes uber. I just don't know if he should be valued as being able to do what he did this year for the next 10 years.

CP3 isn't even the most important example, even younger guys are more problematic because many of them havn't even had good seasons.

Ya there is a huge difference than naming someone than to saying OMG u picked Paul when Karl Malone was on the board???? Basacally implying that people are crazy that he is still on the board and someone who maybe didn't think of picking him now will.

I've basacally given up hope that Karl Malone will be there where I pick now so whatever, what's done is done. I know there was like a very small chance he woulda been there, but still a chance.

You're right, I must not be getting it. How on earth can you know what a player's career, peak etc. is going to be after 1 incredible season at 22 and two really good seasons before that? What am I missing? Help a brotha out.
