Round 9 Pick 358 - Hubert Davis

Hubie will be playing the role of designated sharpshooter off my bench. Hubie is a career 44.1% 3pt shooter on 3.9 attempts per game (so he could do it at a solid volume), #3 all-time in the NBA. At age 24, Hubie shot 45.5% from 3 with a TS% of .612. Hubie had his best 3 pt shooting year at age 29 shooting 49.1% from beyond the arc. There's not much else to say about Hubie and he won't be asked to do much else on my team other than step in and drop bombs

Team so far:

PG - Johnny Moore
PG - Kenny Anderson
SG - Ray Allen
SG - Hubert Davis
SF - Kiki Vandeweghe
SF/PF - Jerome Kersey
PF/C - Elton Brand
PF/C - Rick Mahorn
PF/C - Troy Murphy

3 point shooting is the last thing u needed at this spot.

You needed an athletic swingman that could play the 2 and 3. You have too many shooters and almost no slashers.

Or you could have gone with a safe pick with a back up center. Whats gonna happen if mahorn gets hurt, murph and brand are too undersized to play center for you.

Ray Allen and Jerome Kersey are both athletic wings, so you're wrong.

I plan on having Brand, Mahorn, and Murphy all playing C at some point.

Also, as I've said in the past, my team is gonna play very fast paced and shoot a hell of a lot of 3s, so Hubie will be perfect.

It's been over 24 hours so GKA is skipped and it's my turn....

I am picking Al Harrington. He was grossly inefficent before the ages of 24, which hurts his career averages. However since i'm getting him at 24, this doesn't matter to me, and he has become a very good 3pt shooter and his TS% has been pretty good too hovering around 54%.

I also think hes an average/slightly above average defender and I got a team of very good/great defenders so he won't hurt me much.

Team so far:

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin McHale
SF: Luol Deng
SG: Raja Bell
PG: Chauncey Billups
6th man: SG Kevin Martin
PF/C Andray Blatche
SF/PF Al Harrington

GKA is next to me, he just woke up, posting for him:

With the 359th overall pick, (Round 9) GKA selects Mike Conley

He needed a backup PG, and he thinks that Conley is the best to soak up whatever minutes Andre is off the court. His team thus far:

PG - Andre Miller
Backup PG - Mike Conley
SG - Nate McMillan
Backup SG - JR Smith
SF - Paul Pierce
Backup SG - Ryan Gomes
PF - Kenyon Martin
Backup PF -
C - Pau Gasol
Backup C - Brendan Haywood

Not a big Conley fan after his first year in Memphis but let's see if he improves. Guy is so small though and is very injury prone. He is a good passer for his age though.

nath beat me to it. nh sir.

kinda agree with capone. He looked AWFUL in summer league, too.

edit: but then again, at this point the potential is probably worth rolling the dice on

I like the al harington pick a lot here. He fits well with that team.

I like the idea of having kevin martin coming in off the bench to do some bulk scoring, while raja starts to put a slow down on the opposing wing scorer.

your team is interesting epine. Replacing kendrick with someone better would have put you in the top 5 IMO.

yeah his weakness at C is my biggest concern for his team, too, but it's still a great team.

I really don't get the perk bashing, he is a very good if not great defender which is what I need from that spot. He is also a very good offensive rebounder as well.

I have plenty of scoring, it's not like I need scoring at every position (I have scoring at every position besides center, and I even have great low post scoring in McHale and even Billups if he posts up smaller guards).

Perkins was drafted to help solidify my defense as center is the most important defensive position. If I had gotten a better scorer but worse defender than Perkins, my team would not nearly be as good.

I don't mind the Perk pick sooo much, but Perk + Blatche is a pretty weak platoon in this league.

I don't think Billups will be posted up too many people in this league, most NBA guards can barely post up now due to the zone rules. Last year he took 81% jump shots and 19% close shots according to 82games.com, of which a lot of the close shots were layups. Billups is a big PG, but with such talent in the paint in most teams I can't imagine him posting up very much.

eh I don't think so, they are both good defensivley although Perk is better. Blatche gives me a great weakside shotblocker which is what I needed since both of my other bigmen are better man to man defenders than help defenders although they are both pretty good help defenders too.

I don't need them to create shots, just play near the hoop and crash the boards/convert open dunks. I've got a ton of very good/elite offensive options in McHale, Billups, Martin, Deng with Harrington being able to score as well.

ok fair enough, he will only be posting up guards who are 6'0 and under anyway. I got McHale so while having 2 great lowpost scorers would be nice, it's not that necessary since McHale will be playing 35-40 mpg anyway.

Larry Hughes just got taken!!!!!!!!!!! Incredible. While I think this pick is pretty bad, Larry Hughes is just horrific, this really shows how terrible the earlier Antoine Walker pick is. I look forward to fans of your team continuing this website.

lol wtf I never said my team had no weakness's nor that it was #1. My teams weaknesses are defensive rebounding and passing, and I don't think I am hands down #1 although I think I could make a case for them being #1 and I def think I am in the top 5

of course you do. That's my point. Calling Perk and Blatche a comparatively weak C platoon isn't really shocking or anything.. it's the truth. That's how this league works. Everyone's got a chink in the armor. But every criticism of any element of your squad comes back with 1000 buts and ifs about how it doesn't really matter because of this this and this.

The thing is Perk/Blatche aren't offensive liabilities. They will always take up a defender, and if not they can convert open dunks.

So yes they are "weak" comparatively but u can't judge a players role like that. I would much rather have Perk/Blatche than centers who are a good amount better than them but not nearly as good on defense. So while those centers are better than Perk/Blatche, they aren't better for my team.

I mean Perkins wasn't a weakness for the Celtics this year, he was actually a strength. Only commentators who didn't see Perk play that much thought that.

I am taking Jason Maxiell. Full write up later, but he is a good defender especially for his size, he can bring another good shot blocker to help the wing defenders out and he will be able to run with the fast break and can finish strong.

interesting to see maxiell fall this far.

In my chart i was comparing maxiell to millsapp, but gave millsapp the edge because of playing 82 games both seasons.
