Milsapp definately a great pick here.

He has far more offensive capabilities than people give him credit for.

There is not much room for 1 on 1 moves in jerry sloans offense but milsapp showed signs of a lot of great post moves and one on one action from the top of the circle. Also great ability to finish or get fouled after an offensive rebound.

Dont really think hes a steal, but still a great pick and would have taken him over a guy like thadeus young.

Another great thing about milsap is the back to back years with 82 games played.

Milsap better than Landry imo, both good picks.

Milsap and Landry were the two guys I was looking at. Milsap is younger, but Landry's numbers were better in pretty much every single category(albeit in less sample size), so I went with him.

Xorbie, I'm very interested in seeing you try to defend your Milsap>Landry point.

one really easy argument would be that in the playoffs while milaps production per 36 increased, landry's decreased. Along with horrible fg%. Another thing about milsap is 1.8 blocks and steals combined while landry is .6 so thats an extra possession per game youll get from paul.

The real deal breaker is the playoff improvement. For 2 years milsap has been more efficient in the playoffs, this is the kind of guy you want on your team. Not the one whose field goal percentage drops 20% points when it counts the most. Also I question a guy who gets only 8 fouls total in 6 playoff games. Hes not hitting anyone. For the regular season its a good thing but for the playoffs I think I dont like that number. Landry played 1 more minute in the playoff and his stats in every category decreased besides for steals.

One thing this sticks out is his abilities to finish around the rim. He seems to have quite a knack for that at such a young age.

Hey guys, sorry I dissapeared on you.

Im studying like crazy for some exams and also in a house with no internet atm so my only normal access to the internet is using some vodafone wireless thing I borrowed off a friend that filters out 2+2 (wtf?!).

I'll get a pick up tonight some time, keep skipping me until then.

I'd take Milsap over Landry because what you get from each is fairly similar. Landry may be better offensively, but the sample size is small and I'm much more certain about what Milsap is going to give than Landry being able to maintain his efficiency when other teams key in on him somewhat. Milsap is much better defensively and two years younger. So considering neither is ever going to be a superstar, I'd rather taken the more proven quantity with maaaybe a slightly lower ceiling (but he's younger, and has better defense, so I'm not even convinced of this yet) who has proven to be a durable player.

You're seriously using the "clutch in the playoffs" for two guys with a combined 3 years of NBA experience?

Point taken on blocks/steals, although I think those numbers are way overrated as defensive metrics(see Josh Smith/Marcus Camby, or see Bowen as an example of a great defender who doens't have those)

Fair enough, although I question you saying Milsap is "much better" defensively. Also Landry's PER, ORtg, and TS% numbers are off the charts....yes he won't keep those up, but he can drop off a ton and still be very good(and still be above Milsap).

obv the main reason for Millsap > Landry due to 3K+ mins > 700mins. Rollin' the dice on Landry being better though ain't really a problem in the 9th round, though. His #s are crazy.

Also, Millsap fouls a ****load.

really? i saw a fair number of Rockets games this year and it looked like he was crashing the glass like nobody else. going after every rebound and nailing every easy putback.

Round 9, Pick 331

AVERY JOHNSON

Ok, so briefly...Im in need of a back up point guard - and Avery fills that need good enough for me to make this pick. Im getting decent value at this pick imo. He is very solid at the 1, a pass first point gaurd who gets everyne involved, he will run the offense well while Paul is taking a breather - and overall, has solid career stats to back him up.

Yes, he had a solid 15 year career, though he was not known for his scoring, he shot a respectable 47.9% from the field and held a 51.7 TS% while only averaging 1.7 turnovers per game. Career PER was 14.5, topping off at 16.3. His career PER 36 Minutes Stats are in the ballpark of 12 ppg and 8apg. Though hes not the greatest defender - he is a very solid back up pg...and I think pretty decent value with the 331st pick.

My Roster so far:
PG Chris Paul
SG RIP
SF Terry Cummings
PF Vin Baker
C Theo Ratliff

Bench:
SF Chuck Person
SG Isaiah Rider
PF Frank Brickowski
PG Avery Johnson

Lurchy Soprano is on the clock...

Round 9, Pick 332

Sherman Douglas

This writeup may end up being relatively short since I'm out of town and busy at the moment but I'm going to select Sherman Douglas to be my backup PG.

He had a big year as a 24 year old averaging 18.5 ppg, 8.5 apg, and 1.8 spg to go along with a PER of 18.0 and a TS% of .546. Overall, I think he'll be a nice backup for Mark Jackson and may even start over him if this league is as strict on the age 24 rule as I'm understanding.

Finally, Douglas ranks in the top 30 all time in Assist % and averaged 5.9 assists per game for his career.

My team so far

PG: Mark Jackson
SG: Alvin Robertson
SF: Sean Elliot
PF: Karl Malone
C: Mehmet Okur

Bench:

PG: Sherman Douglas
SG/SF: Dennis Scott
SF/PF: Antawn Jamison

Round 9: Pick 335

Sasha Vujacic

Sasha is a young wing who shoots lights out and still has some upside. He also rocks the short shorts better than any mother****er left in this draft:

This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 640x426.

Playing behind Kobe Bryant and lacking the size to defend some of the stronger 3s, Sasha only managed to get on the floor for 17.8 minutes per game last year, but in those minutes he put up 8.8 ppg, 2.1rpg and a scant 1apg. His PER was 15.1.

His per 36 numbers and shooting percentage paint a better picture of how talented this kid is. He shot 43.7% from deep and had a True Shooting of 60.5%. Per 36 minutes he averaged 17.8 ppg, 4.3 boards and 2 dimes.

His decision to stay with LA for millions less than market value, only to play fewer minutes than he would elsewhere tells me he's going to be great in this format. Most of us think our stars will tone down their roll when playing with greater talent (I argued earlier that Jermaine O'Neal won't shoot as much in my offense), but it's important to have some rollplayers who you know care more about winning than their personal glory -- especially when you're talking about 8th and 9th men off the bench.
