What I don't get, is that if you are going to take a guy from the 70's, why not just go for Moses Malone or Dr J - they are still out there as well.

Round 8, pick 296
Ronnie Brewer, SG/SF

I need some more depth at the wings, and while this pick is based partially on potential, I feel like the evidence at hand warrants taking Brewer now. We don't have a large body of work to go by, but Brewer showed significant improvement in his second season-- and he's still only 22. He'll probably improve for a couple of years, at least, and if he puts together a healthy and consistent career at that level, this will look like a major steal.

Brewer's minutes were limited in his first season, but he still showed promise in the 12 minutes a game he got. In his second season, Brewer played in and started 76 games, playing 27 minutes a game. And while sample size may play a part here, there's no doubt been concrete improvement in his play.
His shooting improved significantly, as his field goal percentage jumped 30 points and he went from a .675 to .759 FT%. As a result, his TS% went from .566 to .612 and his PER went from 15.2 to 18.4. He's clearly worked to improve his shot-- another good sign, as a young player's development has much to do with the amount of work he's willing to put into his game.
More stats: His offensive rating went up from 115 to 124 (his team's was 113). His DRtg is pretty consistent with his team's, but he's averaged 2.2 steals per 36 for his career to date, which is a positive sign. So he's a good offensive player (who may become very good) and an average to above-average defender, at least. And he's improving.
His per-36 averages last season: 15.8 / 3.8 / 2.3 / 2.2 points / rebounds / assists / steals. He can do a bit of it all.
Sure, it could be a fluke, and we can't extrapolate too much, but the preponderance of evidence indicates he is a good, young player who is only getting better.

He'll fit my team well, possibly as a backup swingman early, but I suspect in a few years (especially if their current career trajectories continue) he'll team with Calderon in the backcourt. I suspect he'd be better served as the starter, with Francis as an instant-offense sixth-man type, and if his growth as a player continues, he'll be good enough to fill that role admirably. (Even though he can play 2 or 3, this team's abundance of 3s means he'll almost certainly see most of his time at SG.)

I feel like this team can match up well with anyone, and has capable and versatile players who will work together well. We may not be the best at anything in particular, but we have a very efficient offense with no real holes, and good (if not great) defenders whose positional flexibility will allow me to exploit matchups.

my roster:
SF/PF Dirk Nowitzki
PF Carlos Boozer
PG Jose Calderon
SG/SF Dan Majerle
C James Donaldson
PG/SG Steve Francis
PF/C John Salley
SG/SF Ronnie Brewer

From now on, I want Nath to edit my writeups... ^^^^ that was really well written imo.

All of the last dozen or so picks seem pretty good. I especially like Ronnie, and Leon ldo, and think Chris Wilcox is an amazing fit for a Stockton-led team. He's a very good guy without the ball and when he gets deep down low, so being paired up with the best PG in the draft seems like a smart move.

Also, Fadi's pick was surprisingly good for being UTG, and being Fadi...

heres my writeup for my last pick...also - you can click on the name for a YouTube clip of The Brick at work!

Round 8, Pick 291
FRANK BRICKOWSKI

This is a pic of Frank at his regular Clan meeting

This is a pic of Rodman applying to the Clan

This is a pic of the Clan saying "NO Rodmans allowed!"

Standing at 6'9" and 240 pounds, The Brick adds character and depth to my bench, along with the obvious tag as the "Muscle". Many of you remeber him as the guy who bullied Rodman in the Finals a few years ago...but he was much more than that. Frank put up some pretty good numbers in a solid 12 year career in the L. Considering he only averaged a little over 22 minutes per game over this stretch - Frank made the most of it. His PER 36 Minutes stats are more telling of what he can bring to my squad...16ppg and 7.5 rpg with an impressive .519 FG%, .740 FT% and .568 TS%!!!

Ive already got a chit load of scorers on my squad - and Frank adds the blue collar work ethic and will do all the dirty stuff without any second thoughts. Not only will he be diving for loose balls, taking the charges and throwing elbows in the opposing teams star players - but he will also be pretty effective and more importantly, reliable and effiecient on the offensive end. Hes like the Mafias big dumb Hitman who can also sit at the round table and call the shots on occasion too.

My Roster so far:
PG Chris Paul
SG RIP
SF Terry Cummings
PF Vin Baker
C Theo Ratliff

Bench:
SF Chuck Person
SG Isaiah Rider
PF Frank Brickowski

Round 8, Pick 300: Run JMC selects Jamal Crawford

After going defense and rebounding with my first two bench picks it's time to add some scoring. Jamal Crawford brings just that. I'm looking for a no conscience jack em up kinda guy and Crawford has no problems letting it fly from anywhere. With some pretty solid offensive rebounding on my team with Horford, Wells, and Foster I have no problem letting Crawford loose. He's a pretty awful defender but he does have some toughness to him. He's been used in the catalyst off the bench role before and thrived in it. I get to throw out some years where he was still learning the game and developing his skills which I think makes him a steal this late. I think he's a perfect fit for my team as well. I'm thrilled to add my first Knick as well. While I def goofed the Horford pick I feel like I've done a really solid job filling out the roster since then.

Team so far:
PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Mitch Richmond
SF: Corey Maggette
PF: Al Horford
C: Ralph Sampson

SG/SF: Bonzi Wells
PF/C:
PG/SG: Jamal Crawford

RUFFNECK on the clock...

or per 36 minutes: 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.3 blocks

I'd say that Young has at least a 75% chance of ending up better than Brewer.

When you have such limited evidence, it's hard to gauge, but I feel one reason people are saying Brewer > Young (and a reason I picked Brewer) is that he's already displayed a significant season-to-season improvement. Young, as a rookie, obviously hasn't the chance to, but even so, he comes with the concern that he won't actually improve.
