While I am not completely sold on Bynum--this is an awful example for more reasons than one.

I missed the 6 hours of 4/2 basketball that Wright played this season. It must have been really awesome though.

ZOIDS.. that's what I say to that pick.

Yeah, there's at least two guys from that draft alone that I would take ahead of Wright.

Would somebody please talk me down from the Randolph Cliff...he seemed too productive to pass up.

randolph was a good pick.

Hes been on horrible teams with no other choices but to give him the ball and let him operate in the post because he can always create his own shot.

He was just horrible at passing out of double teams, and is good at anticipating when the double team is coming so he learned how to shoot before the second man got there creating his low percentage. He should be solid on your team.

With a guy like Pippen on your roster you dont have to worry about bad charecter guys on your roster.

I believe in talent WAYYYY over character...but I'm not sure that Pip is a plus...and VExel and Randolph could be a prob. Ellis, Kaman, Gill, and Daugherty all seem like good guys, though. I think I'm close to the top-10....what does everyone else think.

i do too.. but I just don't think he's that talented. He scores at such a paltry rate for someone with supposedly so much offensive skill. And he's a defensive ZERO.

Could be interesting off the bench but we just have no frame of reference to see if he does it any different

He probably rebounds at high enough rate to be worth SOMETHING, right?

"GKA - Brendan Haywood
Solid pick, for basically the opposite reasons as Perkins. His offensive game is more polished, but his defense and rebounding are not as good. As a unit, the frontcourt trio of Gasol, Haywood and Kenyon Martin should be good offensively, but not defensively with KMart being the best defender of the group."

Uhh, Pau and KMart are both above average defensively. I actually think GKA has a fairly balanced team./

I think you guys are really overestimating the amount of guys who drop off based on just production, it really isn't many. And if it does happen, it's almost always just a slight drop off.

85-90% of the reason players drop off is cause of injury or old age. The bad thing is Bynum just was out for half the year and had to have surgery, so this is a pretty big issue imo. If Bynum hadn't gotten hurt, NoPairParker would have a valid point, however since he did, I lean more with the skeptical crowd although you obviously can't write Bynum off completly as he could easily come back fine but there is some obvious concern. It was still an awful 2nd round pick though as others have said, there were so many players better.

zoid hasn't posted his in the main thread, so i'll hold off on that until he does

for now, my pick is:

Round #7/Pick #258: Raef Lafrentz

Lafrentz is a 6'11 pf/c known for shot blocking and his outside shot. He has a career 363% 3pt shot with 2.3 attempts/game. He's a 10/6 guy in limited minutes, with a very good career defensive rating of 104, dws of 50.4 and 30.5 wsaa. He'll also grab me roughly 2 blocks per game when he plays good mins, or 1-1.5 when he's only playing 20 or so minutes.

From 24 years of age, he played 69+ games 5/6 seasons (78/78/69/17/80/82), and here he will be a backup so may be more likely to stay injury free. He can come off the bench for zo or buck and not give up too much more on defense while stretching the floor by drawing his man out to the 3pt line, opening the lane for my slashers

Team so far:
PG: Devin Harris/Rajon Rondo
SG: Jason Richardson
SF: Joe Johnson
PF: Buck Williams/Raef Lafrentz
C: Alonzo Mourning/Raef Lafrentz

Raef. I was looking to get him a little later. That's also a pretty good fit on your team.

Bynum also had a similar season-ending injury in High School IIRC. I can think of a better undrafted player who's had a similar history.

# of Nuggets drafted from the 1993-1994 team that upset the 60 win Sonics in the first round and stretched Utah to 7 games: 2 (DEKE!, Rodney Rogers)

# of Nuggets drafted from the 2001-2002 squad that went 27-55: 6 (Van Exel, Posey, Raef, Juwan, McDyess, Hardaway)

Conclusion: Dikembe owns.

Randolph-I think it's not a bad pick for the 7th round at all. He is a headcase but so are Marbury, Franchise, Spreewell, etc. who were selected much earlier than him. He's a bad scorer and bad defender but rebounds well and is relatively healthy.

Wright-Huge project. I thought about drafting him eventually but in the 10th round as a project pick. Your right he does have upside but there are a lot of players still available will good skill sets including 2 of the guys selected recently in Hill and Lafrentz.

Hill-I thought about taking him in the 5th instead of Clifford. Is similar to a lot of the rebounders which have been taken the last 4 rounds and I was wondering why he fell so far. He's not much better or worse than most of the ones taken although his 1 on 1 D isn't anything special.

Lafrentz-Another solid pick. Seeing that the rest of your bigs like to play the middle, a guy who can shoot the outside jumper on top of having good D is not a bad thing. Lately he's been terrible but for a bulk of his career he was a pretty good player. Was on a short list of guys I was thinking about in the next couple of rounds.

oh man i still have nightmares about raef lafrentz starting for the celtics, gimping up and down the court, not grabbing rebounds, and jacking threes.

If I had to do it over again, I would have taken Mutombo over Wilkins (or Pippen and Payton too). I didn't realize how dominant he was and, even if my picks don't show it, I have learned more about b-ball over the past month through this thread.

I didnt see the Tyrone Hill pick earlier. Good selection and more often than not Im impressed with the picks/NBA knowledge of ppl in this thread.

Raef is OK, he really could have been awesome, or at least a lot better, but soooo many injuries.

I agree with what was said above about Wright - if this were real life and the teams actually got to play out, than sure, take a risk - he might be awesome. But since its not and the other owners are the judges, no dice. I much rather take a player who had one great season and then fell apart for some reason and argue that those things wouldn't happen in this league.

Also, ZOIDS.
