He didn't start getting the double-digit dwin shares until shaq showed up in 92-93, but thats because there weren't many wins period before shaq showed up.

think you coulda done better for what he gives you, but he's probably a bit more durable than some other options. Lord have mercy if he gets FTs in a big game though.

yes - those four (4!) bricks mind-fukked him for another 1/2 season after that too. Aside from that, tho, he was pretty solid IMO.

I like the Francis pick a lot. I had actually considered him at the pick where I ended up with Mark Jackson for a while and I do feel like he's been underrated due to his a.) lousy personality and b.) years in NY.

Nath, you pretty much handicapped yourself with that pick. You can never move the team to Canada now.

rofl

I almost included in the writeup that my team would be based in Houston anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue

Vancouver is more of a "vacation spot" amirite?

Francis to me is the kind of guy that you can't knock the pick because it is good value at this stage, but I wouldn't want him on my team.

+1

he's a guy I didn't want to be my starting PG. the inner-ear thing, attitude, inefficiency bothered me. i was heavily considering him as my 6th man a few picks ago, but felt like a good big was more valuable

the numbers he put up were unmatched (i think) in terms of players available, i just wasnt sure about the fit for me. ++ value though

(he's not a great defender, no, but I feel he's certainly a + defensively)

i think this is a perfect way to put it. Franchise was a ROY/3time all star - put up huge numbers - but I mean, who wants him? He had migraine issues too, right?

For example, I think his upside is much higher than Derek Fisher, but I'd rather have Fish on my team. (If that makes sense?) I'm liking Nath's team due to adaptability. It looks like his lineup has a ton of flex.

(For the record, you don't get his 18.4, 21.6, 19.1 PER production as he was 22/23/24, so he peaked early, maintained it till around 27, then fell of a cliff for whatever reason)
rating wise he's slightly above average for a pg defensively. stole the ball/rebounded/fouled all at around average marks minute wise for a combo guard. i don't think he hurts a defense but i wouldn't call him a + defender.

Yeah, this is a major reason I took Francis. I considered a few other guys at the position, but I thought his skill set and adaptability fit my team best.

And I think a lot of the concerns people are expressing about him can be alleviated in the right system and with talented players-- he's going to be a 5th/6th man here, not the best player on his team. He won't HAVE to carry a team.

It's like what someone (Casey Stengel?) said about losing 20 games as a pitcher-- you can't be that bad to lose 20 games or they wouldn't keep sending you out there. Being the best player on a losing team still means you had the talent to be a #1 option. A guy who's been the best player on a bunch of losing/middling teams (he did make the playoffs once and has been on a few >.500 teams) has a decent chance to succeed as a 6th man on a team where he's surrounded with real talent and the right system/coaching.

The thing is Francis was a real bad jump shooter (like, real bad, you can check it out on 82games) but was very proficient at everything else, drove well, finished decently, drew a ton of fouls. And on this team, there are players to space the floor, he won't have to be the only option and can mostly just drive and dish or finish. Will he still take some ill advised jumpers, more shots than he should? Sure. But his efficiency should only go up on this team, and having a guy like him be a 6th man is very valuable.

I feel like Chise is a pretty big knucklehead, but obv. a very good value in the role described; this would be one of the more interesting subplots to watch if we could live-sim this league (and I really wish we could b/c this would be ****ing can't-miss, eight-screens TV every night.) Can Chise accept his role as an Antawn-Jamison-for-the-Mavericks guy? Good question imo.
