Congrats on finding 3 guys better than him.

FWIW, I think Battier and Prince also went too early. Chucker Dan went closest to where he should've.

And yeah they're better, they all also went between 48-97 picks before him. And the dropoff isn't huge. You're just being silly now.

To put it in perspective, this guy, close to his prime, signed for less than the midlevel this summer as an unrestricted free agent and Boston fans weren't even sure they wanted him when he signed. But somehow this guy is a top 200 player since 1980. This is a great example of role players of today being overrated. And I think Posey is a very nice little player. He's just horrific value right now with the cats that are available.

ok. I promise to try and draft a role player similar to Posey in the 8th or 9th round and we'll see how I did. This'll be fun.

Way to paint history to suit your argument. Any Boston fan that wasn't enthralled with Posey was a n00b to the NBA that "ZOMG WANTED REGGIE MILLER." And Posey signed for less money because free agents were knocking at our doors begging to play with us.

Pressey was the higher of the two guys I thought I need to get to make my trade a good one.

When I made my deal with EPiPEN, I hoped one was going to fall and I got a little scared when McCray, Green, and Pierce went. I was sure someone would sniff Pressey out, and I really would get the way worst of it in the trade.

Lucky I got what I wanted and I am picking a total of over 60 spots sooner than I would have in two of my later picks.

Gamble pays off for a change.

lol in my searches i kept coming across players drafted in 1978 and kept hoping they pulled a larry bird. it was reminiscent of the simpsons scene where homer was looking through ice cream variety packs that had vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, except he had eaten all the chocolate, so when he'd get them he'd be like "chocolate...chocolate...D'OH!"

I mean, is he even a top 200 player today, at this moment? I'm thinking yes, but it's probably close. I doubt he's top 150. And "today at this moment" isn't all that different than his career other than the one great year at Memphis.

well...he's at least the 5th best player on a team leading 1-0 in the NBA finals....30 teams in the league and I just scanned it quickly but IMO he's better than starters on over half of them.

over half = 16. and clearly better than 10. if i was being a huge homer i could've stretched it to 18.

Top 5 Celtic? I was just told in another thread than the "Big 3", both the other starters are at least top 5 defensive players *in the league* at their position.

I'll give you 6 though. I agree he's likely better than a starter on some teams, but there are teams with better bench guys than him as well.

Anyways, we don't need to dissect this. I'll do my best in the 8th to equal Posey's value and we can discuss then. Maybe I'll look ******ed, it won't be the first or last time.

Posey is actually fairly unique, in that he is a tall/long good wing defender that can hit the 3 at a 35% clip and give you 10/5.

That type of player was virtually nonexistant before 1990 and the list of guys that will give you those numbers is surprisingly short.

You probally can easily argue Rondo. It not b/c he's that great defensively on an absolute scale yet it's that most PGs in the league are terrible defensively. There are no Kidd, Payton in prime etc. right now.

1. mchale
2. rondo
3. russell
4. posey
5. brian doo

this seems to be the point in the draft when older owners - meaning guys who were around to watch hoops in the 80s/early90s - are starting to be at a huge advantage. there are "better versions" of a number of guys going recently.

Don't know if I agree with that. Nash & Paul are both really close to Payton and Kidd, offensively. Williams is excellent as well. Kidd still had 10 APG this year. Baron Davis, Parker, Miller, etc...

There are a lot of guys that can create, guys that can penetrate, ones that can shoot, and some that can do all three.

It is hard to compare eras, but I don't think this PG class is that bad at all.

Clark, nobody is saying that TS% is more important than defense, rebounding, passing, etc. What people are saying is that when discussing the ability to score, TS% is a very effecitve measure. Now obviously we must take into account usage and/or PPG because its tougher to have a higher TS% when you're used more often.

Again, I'll relate this to my team in particular since I feel as if I'm one of the main "TS% guys"- I didn't just look at TS% at all. Rather, I built on the defensive end first, made sure my guys were solid all around, and also did heavily consider TS%.
