I'd call him Grant Hill at PF.

he was like the anti-amare. clarks comparison is a good one. he could do it all and had a vv high bball iq. the fact that he won a national championship with that group of scrappers is still amazing.

Manning was an interesting player. All around scoring game, inside quickness and good moves, with a jumper to mid range+. Can't think of a great modern day comp, maybe Shareef A-R or Jamison. Was on a couple bad teams like the Clippers and briefly the hawks (after getting traded for an aging 'Nique). Found his niche with the suns, but struggled with injuries. Was a member a few fun squads in Pheonix, including the NBA team with the most guys named Dan.

Better comparison, IMO.

I used Amare because it seemed like the best way to explain a 6'10" guy who would use his handle and athleticism to hurt opposing centers, but their games are still fairly different. I like the Hill comparison better.

A better, though smaller and far more efficient Chris Webber is another way to think of Manning.

Could Manning ever play the SF?(I ask both offensively and defensively)

pre-injury definitely. and against some lineups he still could, but a lot of the quick 3s would give him trouble.

But Webber is a much better rebounder, passer and in his prime defender. Manning is definitely more efficient though. There is a guy he's really like that hasn't been picked yet.

Pre injury Manning was a better like everything than Webber.

a lil off topic - but holy ***...did you guys know that Jermaine Oneal still has 2 years left on his contract valued at $44 mill???...wow! - $44 mill to be a role player is just wow.

I suppose he can be something more or a role player if he wasnt on the Pacers and if he wasnt always a health risk.

More like Gasol in the post with a much better face up game and jumper. He was not a athletic finisher(Amare), but had a variety of ways to score.
He also played good team D, but was never a lockdown type player.
Manning would have been a perrianial All-Star if he had not injured his knee.

I am on this side (w/ you) that there is no telling what Manning could have done but Webber was a better rebounder and a better passer.

I'm going to call you in a bit -

but "we" is a bunch of 2p2ers here for the summer. No one other than me is a contributor on SE tho.

Don't like the comp that much, Webber was a much better rebounder, a somewhat better passer, and overall a much better player. Webber was an MVP candidate, Manning, while very talented, never produced on that high a level. His career year of 22.8/6.6/2.6 was good, but not elite.

He actually played a little more like a SF than a PF, but had PF size.
