Oooh, I forgot about the player/coach angle. That + people having to draft mediocre coaches means I'm strongly opposed.

assani asked if people were strongly opposed to eliminating coaches..and it seems like you are strongly opposed to drafting coaches. when you say "i'm strongly opposed" he may be confused. you may want to clarify.

As an outside, it seems like "drafting" a coach is ******ed.

Oh, I'm definitely in favor of drafting coaches for the absurdity of it all.

And 234 million for coach Larry? He is extremely retirement prone, imo.

Does drafting Jeannie Buss mean that you get to lure Phil to your team after a year or two?

The more I look at other teams, the more I like my squad of Ellis, Pip, Kaman, Daugherty. The best team? Nah, but I like my squad.

The more I think of it, the more absurd the coach thing is.

And isn't that the whole point of this draft? We're putting together a hypothetical team of players from 1979-present and then trying to rank them somehow, we need to embrace the absurdity and run with it.

ok. I'm definitely drafting Jeannie and, through the teachings of Epippen, I will note to all that she will seduce Phil Jackson and I will have the best coach available to me within like 2 years. Ship it holla imo.

Lol I would love to see someone pick Larry Brown and try to defend him...maybe whoever picked AI could do it lol.

Does the team with Larry Brown have >50% chance of totally imploding in ~3 years?

Since the coaching pool is small, I think that the choice should be beetween a coach, an owner and a franchise (and maybe a GM if you've really messed up your draft)
Makes for more interesting discussion IMO

why dont you just let people have whatever coach they want. so there could be 40 of coach X. realistically maybe only 10 coaches (at the max) would be drafted, but whatever. and your coach doesnt really do anything, except what style you're going to run (no coach is better than others persay)

like if you're going to run the triangle, you pick X. if you want to focus on defense, you pick Y, etc.

just 'pick' your coach once you're done drafting, imo.

Can we have a "Kevin McHale Doing Great Things" photoshop thread? I mean, I'm pretty sure it was him who led the Civil Rights Movement anyway.

This would be epic. Too bad I have no idea how to use photoshop.

No, this would be too weird, you can't have Phil Jackson coaching against himself, and you certainly can't have Larry Bird coaching for and against himself.

There will be enough good coaches, we're talking about a 30 year time period and there's no rule about how recent their first season had to be.

This was the same the thing I was going to suggest. I'm just an observer now, but what's the point of building a team to a certain mold if you can't get a coach who emphasizes that style.

Or, alternatively you can just remove coaches, but the teams feel more complete with a coach.

Ok, heres the official ruling about drafting coaches.....

I want to leave it in your guys hands, so I'll take a vote. With that said, in order to overturn a current rule it takes more than just a >50% vote. Also, I'm fully aware that its impractical to get all 40 of us to vote on something. So heres the deal:

The first 30 of us that vote will count. If 20 or more vote to not include coaching then the rule will change. Otherwise the rule will stay the same.

If after a few days 30 people havn't voted, then we'll go with whomever has voted and use the same 66% needed qualifier.

Does that seem fair to everyone?
