I very much disagree with this. As has been shown by the stats posted, Shaq did far better against RS than he did against Mutombo. Its not the same thing. 30 points is different than 22 points even though both are good offensive outputs for a player.

I am over it, but here is why this is an issue:

Inevitably, we will be comparing our teams to championship teams; none of our teams will be able to stack up against the great teams and IMO that is something that we should have hoped for and would have been possible (with an alternate format). Teams will play like (wait for it........................... best example yet).............................................. .............Non-gold medal-winning Team USA's...

Before someone argues that these teams are very good and could compete against championship teams, please look at Team Argentina and Team Spain's rosters and tell me that they would beat any champ of the last 30 years...

I've seen the United States Mens National Team lose repeatedly to absurdly bad rosters, including at home, over the last decade.

Last 2 picks:

OMG Michael Jordan's team is absolutely awful.

Rony Seikaly is an attempt at a creative pick of a not well-known player.
(LOL look @ his #'s, Seikaly stinks)

I agree that the argument could be used for many teams in this draft, although I think that Isiah + Roy will be one of the best backcourts in the league at setting up their teammates.

Specifically, though, I think the argument is strongest with O'Neal because it's unlikely that anyone will have the drop in usage that he will -- O'Neal's will likely be cut in half.

Any team we complete will play like this given all 24 year old teams so get ready...

After studying the 4 man rosters, I think KidColin's team (Bird, Vlade, Cassell, Davis) is the most complete with the fewest question marks, with sergz (Mutombo, Gil, Detlef, Rudy) coming in a close second.

You know what, you've basically contributed zero to the thread other than to bitch about this rule, which you agreed to up front, and to go "lol terrible picks" without any specifics, analysis or meaningful insight. Please to stfu or actually start contributing. /rant

I've been saying this for a long time. Everyone thinks it was a run-the-floor offense with Jrich/Kmart/VC and Kidd running the show. No, it was successful because the bigmen played defense, Kidd was an excellent defender, and they got *enough* scoring to win.

Still, those teams only advanced because the East was disgusting.

My memory is very biased, but the early 2000s, it was essentially:
1a. LA Lakers
1b. San Antonio Spurs
.
.

2. Sacto Kings
3. Portland T'blazers
.
.
.
.
.
4. Dallas Mavericks (their ascension)
5. Minnesota T'Wolves (sorta)
.
.
.
6. Pacers, Nets, Pistons

You know what? This says little about the validity of my point...

and, IMO it is fairly obvious that Seikaly is not one of the best centers available and that Juwan Howard, among others, is a bad pick and Jordan's team is not a guaranteed winner by any stretch (though if you think about it, it should be (especially thus far))...

Sorry you don't want your pick in the middle of this but Deke isn't beating Shaq or any of the big 3/4 after that. You can't beat a Shaq team w/ Shaq in his prime playing inside out. No chance. In this hypothetical at least.
I didn't quote your numbers because I don't dispute your assertion that Shaq outplayed both Seikely and Mutombo. What I dispute is your conclusion that since Shaq outplayed them both, it doesn't matter by how much he outplayed them. I really don't see how you can argue that your team's chances of winning don't improve if you hold the opposing center to 21 points on 53% shooting instead of 28 points on 62% shooting.

In actuality, I think Rony is a fine pick here. I just don't follow your logic of "well, I can't get a center as good as Shaq anyway, so it doesn't matter just how much worse than Shaq he is." The dropoff between Mutombo and Seikely is very substantial, as it should be between a 1st-rounder and a 5th-rounder. And that difference in quality matters a lot, even if they both get outplayed by the Shaqs and Hakeems of the world.

It was one of those things at the time that was overlooked because Kidd looked so pretty on the fast break and was a media darling (despite being a wife abuser).

Also, could you address your problems with Durant? I still don't get why you don't like him.

4 man squads that I think are the best not including my own:

seadood's - KG, Lambs, Hornacek, Miller (fwiw I can't understand people saying Miller isn't a great fit. A pure shooter who doesn't completely suck at everything else is AWESOME on any team, especially one this pass-happy).

cowboy - Sheed, Glove, Ty Chandler, LJ. i have no idea how good they'll be, but they're awesome anyway.

ClarkShizzlemyNizzle - Ewing, Nance, Mookie, Houston. I think Mookie was a definite mistake, and I'm not hugely in love with Houston but assuming he does what he's told it works, but Ewing Nance backbone is so awesome that Mookie over better options doesn't matter as much.

capone0 - Dwight Christ, Tim Hardagay, Iggy, Steve Smith. Think this team is awesomely balanced, if a little raw, though it does lack the deep ball.

Team I would love if he didn't totally blow his 3rd round: Bobbo. Shaq, Eddie, and Brandon is so awesome why'd you have to go trade up for Coleman.

I didn't like the Brandon pick either. Guy was too injury prone. Any team that luckboxed their way into one of the studs (especially Jordan or Shaq) should've tried to build to be competitive for as long as they could.

lol @ you bringing up injury prone.

I think for a quality guy like Brandon, it's worth rolling the dice on and picking up some solid/unimpressive backup. It's not like Shaq needs 4 other + players. The squads he won rings with were excellent wing man and pieces that ranges from solid -> slightly below average.

Which is more why I hate the Coleman pick.
