Kaman's mid-range jumper was pretty consistent, has a decent amount of post moves, and can finish near the hoop. I think his advantage in offense is way more than whatever gap there is on defense. Some say Biedrins is a good defender in a really bad system, i personally believe he has the tools, but isn't there yet.
Read my post again. I agree Kaman is like way better than Beans at real basketball. I was saying the opposite opinion was nuts.

KLJ,

Maybe I wasn't clear. I meant that not only do I get him now when he's already an above average (better than that IMO) player in the NBA, but I also get him at 24, when all your guys are 29, then at 28, when all your guys are 33 and old and over the hill.

Don't forget that Barry excelled in Seattle when he got major playing time. With KJ and 'Nique I got two guys who can drop 30+ on any given night. Barry is exactly what I need in a SG. Deadly from behind the arc, but doesn't need the ball and is willing and able to give it up if his shot isn't there.

picks-wise we're not really in a hurry because sergsz can't pick probably until monday. so we're looking to knock out 8 picks in the next few days. should be pretty easy.

Still doesn't change what I think of the pick, though.

I thought long and hard about taking Kaman over Sammy, but couldn't find a good reason for it. Terrible efficiency, slightly worse rebounding, and has been a great defender for a shorter span. I'm not seeing it.

Love the Durant pick.

lol @ hoping KD turns into t-mac. McGrady's a huge chucker and is only saved by the fact that he can rebound and pass.

I think Durant was a great value for mid-4th but I would have preferred seeing him on a team with an ironman like Malone who will play until he's 40 than on a team with a 5-year window. You're right that all of our guys will be old when Durant comes into his prime, but your center will be 36 and your small forward might have broken in half by then.

Like I said, great value, but I think his value could be even higher on a different squad.

I don't think I said I want KD to turn into T-Mac, just was comparing 19 year old players who have gone on to be all-stars

my center will be waaaaay older than 36 when KD hits hit prime. he'll be long gone by then.

also, what are the rules for teams with players who will retire? this has never been addressed.

Good question. Are we assuming that only 2-3 guys are locked up long-term? Or is everyone on a contract for life? It really affects the strategy for the later rounds if we can count on dumping projects that fizzled and replenishing our bench every few years.

yeah it has. league continues as normal, drafting new talent every year.

the average talent level drops significantly every year until all the players finally retire. we're starting with a draft class that's 30x deeper than those in real life.

also i'd assume that we have them under contract for life, but can release them at any time. shorter contracts and trading make things infinitely more complicated

Yeah, but he's still a chucker. And Melo isn't exactly great either.

the thing is there are no salaries, free agency, etc. to affect things. also how are we going to decide when someone starts to crumble in this game, role dice? i don't think what happens after the draft has really been set. I know there is a thread but I don't know the viability after the draft of how this will last. I'll do it but I'm not sure what will happen.

yeah. i think we should be drafting how we would if we were to actually start a franchise, not to angle-shoot some post-draft "playoff system" with some technicality or something.

This is veering too far into the post-draft discussion, so I'll make it brief:

Lifetime contracts unless we dump them. A trading/free agency period will be available between hypothetical seasons.

Just my .02

I liked having "seasons" where we rank how each of the teams would do 1-40 in an 82 (or actually more like 78 (play each other team 2x) season. Then top 16 teams make the playoffs.
