The Zydrunas Ilgauskas Rule:
Any player which plays prior to turning 24 yrs of age; and than suffers an injury; and returns thereafter (X years, games) from that point; you receive as though they were joining the NBA at that juncture.

God its tough to have to make these decisions. I can never make everyone happy. I've taken a ton of grief from EPip, Mebenhoe, and others before. Dues, I'm trying my best here. I never considered this situation. As soon as it was brought to my attention, I made the most fair decision I could. It seems like the concensus is that they support my decision. I'm sorry if not everyone does. If the concensus does not support my decision(before the pick is made) then I will go along with the concensus.

Ok, so interesting speculation at this point: When does Rik Smits get drafted? It's cool because he's "been" drafted, has been made aware to the populous, and suddenly is back on the big board. Clearly he gets picked sometime this round.

For the record:

I didn't ask to change my pick, but Assani offered it and I think almost everyone who answered didn't have a problem with it. (for those coming in tomorrow and being like wtffff).

Ehh...don't really wanna speculate as it could effect people picking soon. IMO we should probably just let his name die in the thread until he gets picked.

Wow - I don't get the conflict here. Big Z over Smits seems pretty marginal to me.

I'm going to be away for a while now(playing GHIII)....if many(lets say 4 or more) people object to my ruling before the pick is changed and the next pick(horizon's pick) is made then hold up the draft and wait for me to get back and I'll re-evaluate everything based upon majority opinion. If the pick is changed and horizon picks before 4 or more people object, then my ruling stands. I think thats a pretty fair solution.

I think it's marginal, but I also think nearly everyone would agree Big Z is the BPA. So if the injury thing isn't a big deal, Smits is not the right choice, and since Franchise did PM assani at the time, it's reasonable to let him re-do his pick.

this is the way you should have approached it: ask what the rules are? and what the rules would mean in this case?

well, the rules are that we draft players at 24. or when they enter the league if after 24. are this year if they are currently younger than 24. sooooo, since z entered the league at 21, anyone that was evaluating picks would surely assume that we miss z's 24 season.

Victor,

Interpret your own way and discuss as such. Arguing semantics is no good and does not really lead to anything.

In 98/99, he had a sore left foot (that people later realized was due to a fractured bone) and had surgery.
He missed 99/00 (age 24) because it hadn't healed properly.
He started 00/01 strong, but broke the same bone in his left foot again 24 games in.
He returned midway through 01/02, and missed 19 games in the following 7 full seasons.

This is where someone could help me out, as he wasnt even on my radar screen.
Hot Rod can run the floor with Magic, he was picked mostly as a defensive center. If you mess around with the defensive stats and search centers @bask.ref. he was one of the few that appeared with numerous seasons that fit my criteria and could play with Magic and a faster game. I also felt I had to grab him now, if someone went and messed with the search like me looking for a C he will come up as a pick. Was he picked a tad early? Probably, but how this draft has gone thus far I couldn't chance making my next two picks and hope he falls to me 5th. Everyone I hoped would fall hasn't.

I am most disappointed with my Redd pick, I had a whole list of players all who went before I expected. I basically just went with who I thought was the BPA, if you look at the 2s that played with Magic he is a better version of them from a offensive and long range perspective, he plays D like crap.

I'm mostly hoping to make stronger picks later and I still think there are alot of complementary players left that could make much stronger team than what it looks like I have now.

as much as I don't think it's a big deal and don't care, I see victor's point. i would just assume he'd be a little better than 23/worse than 25 and consider the injury risk and assume I get him at 24. I wouldn't assume I get a 24 yo who is guaranteed missing his rookie year, though.

If it's a preexisting injury, you'd have to assume that he'd miss a year. I believe Assani said that the way to look at this draft is to assume you'd get a clone of a player before their 24 year old year (which was never actually defined, was it the year when you begin at 24 or you turn 24 during, I've been going off of whatever basketball-reference has listed for an age which I believe is chosen as their age on Feb 1 during that season), so if he has a broken foot at that clone period, he'll have a broken foot for his first year in this league. Since Assani feels that is too harsh and practically ruins the value of players who fall into this category, he's willing to push that back to whenever his first post 23 season is, which I think is a fair position to take. It would have been nice to know this prior to the draft, I agree that it isn't a big deal and is the best solution now, and if someone would have drafted differently had they known this clarification, it's their fault for not asking when they were considering Z.

yeah, lets see if someone from before has a legitimate beef and would have picked him had they known this, and then we'll talk
