to me basketball players can't be evaluated the same way as baseball players. Some of these measurements are valuable and can give you a good idea, but these measurements still suffer from the fact that basketball is very much a team sport, and a fluid one at that.

I don't think Rashard is a good defender at all. He use to get a decent amount of steals in Seattle, but he was never good enough to shut down players.

Also, you just HAD to put a pic of him vs the Sonics!

i like blackman. i'm basing this purely on stats and printed media though. with the short run on swingmen just now, i found him very close to the top of my list.

good pick AC - I was thinking about Rolando as well....he was on the bottom of my list though - still - good scoring option.

I had Blackman on my radar. honestly never saw him play but a good older vet.

yeah, blackman makes sense given the run of SGs. he's just like a lot of the other guys drafted now. i really have no idea how to rank all the SGs, heh, but i like the pick, and i know one or two guys will be upset.

Why Rashard is not a better defender is a mystery to me. He's very quick, very tall (6'10 for a 3), has been in the league for a while to "understand," things... But he's simply a poor defender. Possibly low bball IQ, I don't know.

Regardless, Alex has one of the best offensive teams, it's just incredible. Defensively, he's going to have problems with 2 below avg defenders.

Blackman had a great mid-range game and played off the ball. That seems to be much like Dumars. Neither was a primary ball handler. These players seem too similar on offense to justify the pick.

I think Rashards biggest problem is that he is too passive. Thats probably why he likes shooting instead of attacking the basket.

I dunno... I think it's a pretty proven fact in the NBA that individual defense is somewhat useless and team defense is where it's at.

Big Al isn't a great post defender but he's at least a big body and can block shots, and you have Kobe and Rashard who are both very quick and very long... if this team is well coached you can really pressure the ball very well and double down on elite post players.

Erm, when Isaih wasnt in the game (and when he left the Pistons), Dumars was running the point for the Pistons. He's a 5 APG guy perfectly capable of running the point. Besides I have one of the best passing frontcourt players ever, I dont think I'm gonna struggle for creativity.

Eh, a bit early for him, but I have to be honest that I was definitely hoping to get him in round 5.

Anyway I picked Kevin Martin who imo is a legit mid 2nd round talent, I was shocked he fell this far.

This was one of my 6, although he wasn't my #1 only because of how injury prone he has been. In 4 years hes played 45, 72, 80, and 61 games only. Hes also a below average defender, which isn't the direction I wanted to go with my team really.

Rashard played for Nate McMillian, a great team defense coach. I probably watched close to 200 games when Rashard was there, and never once did I think he was a good defensive player.

i think his style is very valuable in this league, because he's efficient without dominating the ball. good for a league of scorers, imo.

Also LOL@ "the ability to be a lockdown defender." Thats like saying someone who has good shooting form but shoots badly has the ability to be a good shooter.

Dumars was a shooting guard. The Pistons had spot up shooters and multiple post options which allowed his assists to be high for a secondary ball handler. I LOVED Dumars as a player but he was best at 2 playing the same style a Blackman. These were two of my faves growing up.( I am a big fan of the midrange game)
I like both players they just seem to overlap in skill set. Plus Blackmon was never a big threat from 3 as far as I remember.

(Obv im biased, thinking DC is a star) Oakley is a great roleplayer who had longevity and defense. He's like a poor man's Horace Grant. I didn't really like the Grant pick in the 2nd round, and I'm not sure I'm in love with this one either, but not bad value. ESPECIALLY with Mullin and Stock. Oakley can't PnR.
FWIW my 2nd round pick came down to Penny, Horace Grant, or Oakley
