The two are very similar offensively, but I would argue Battier SHOULD be much better as Yao and Mcgrady take a hell of a lot of the defensive focuse away from him. On the Detroit team, theres no real superstars that a D has to lock down on like in Houston, yet still Tayshaun puts up good efficient offense.
I'm no sure why you're calling a 1.3 difference in PER significant. Want me to find stats Battier is significantly better in? Wins Produced, WSAA, whatever. Add them all together and you'll find that they're both about equal.
Also, I'm not really sure you should be using T-Mac (27 games missed, sub .500 TS%) and Yao (60 games missed) against Shane Battier. The Rockets are a pretty terrible offensive team, but he's got on of the highest ORtgs in the league. Besides, he did the same things in Memphis, and all that team had was Pau Gasol.
And Tayshaun doesn't put up "good efficient offense." It's below average.
