I think Chambers is a bit of a reach as I had him as one of my potential end of 3rd/beginning of 4th round picks.

If I were Dudd I would have gone big. 4-guard offense ftw!

Can I draft Jay Wright as my coach? He'll make it work.

I thought that was one place Ron could've gone.
I thought this would be the hands down best pick with Jordan. If anyone could knock some sense into Artest it would be MJ, and the wing defense would just be too much to overcome.

I remember tdarko retelling a story that Artest busted up MJ in a pickup game and injured his shoulder before MJ's final comeback.

They'd be a fun combo.

IIRC he broke Michael's rib. There's a big Chicago circuit of pickup with all the nasty guys who are from and played around there, I think there were more Artest (and possibly MJ) stories from there.

Also how much does it suck for mbbbbbbtone to have all these good defensive SF drafted?

I gotta say, I love Nash and Manu so far, but I have noooo idea who I'd pick if I were in his situation right now.

I'd pick a big to cover up for Nash's huge weakness.

That team needs a Shane Battier like no other team does.

I guess but you really need to value town a big man right now, there aren't that many excellent defenders in the paint left in comparison to wing guys. Manu is a good wing defender and Nash has honestly never had a great paint defender if you don't include Shaq now. Nash had Marion, and a good wing defender starting is the Suns D was still never that good. Paint D is very important.

interior D > exterior D

I love hearing about all the pick-up ball NBA guys play. Basketball rules.

Yeah but how many bigs are there left that can both play solid defense and play in Nash's game? A big part of a Nash offense is having everyone be capable of shooting and/or finishing.

And yeah, Battier would've been an insane fit here.

By and large that's true about the interior being more important than exterior, but when you have a fit like Battier (Shawn Marion minus the explosiveness), it'd be too much to pass up on.

kc,

Why so low on Chambers? I think he went right about where he should. He is one of the last 20/7 guys left.

I disagree, I think there are a lot of big guys who do nothing but play D and you can take any of them later. If you don't mind having an offensive ~zero, you can just wait till 4th/5th/6th round I think and grab one of the many many many players who have 1.5+ blocks/game.

1.5+ blocks a game doesn't make you a great defender........makes you probally a good to average off ball guy.

dude, i said that it has its flaws, not that its a worthless stat. the point is PER rates battier as a below average player; this should mean something. the other two metrics favor him quite well. which means the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Couple things...

1. There really are not a whole lot of "great" defenders left at any position and the ones that are have big downsides or would have been drafted already.

2. With Nash/Gnobe, what you need is a good off ball guy, because actually these guys are both good help guys (good hands, quick, play smart team D), but neither is big or strong or good enough at D to keep some of the wing scorers out of the paint. A good shot blocking big >> a good post D playing big on this team, IMO (although the two are often correlated).

I keep doing b-ref searches, trying to come up with players that meet various criteria. Ts>x and Reb/g>y, etc.

Michael ****ing Jordan comes up in every one of my searches. There is absolutely nothing the man couldn't do. Its crazy.

IMO it's not very valuable when it comes to Battier. He is absolutely not a below average player. If you can shoot the 3 consistently well, then you are at worst a small + offensively. Add in the fact that he's an awesome defender and you've got yourself a very good player. That's Battier right now, not sure how he was earlier in his career, but if it's more of the same, you can't argue against Battier.

I wish they'd just hurry up and put him in the HoF so it would make all those searches easier
