Great pick with Thorpe. Put up a 20/10 season when he was 25. Really a forgotten player. I love the pick. The health and longevity is astounding.

marion can play the undersized 4 or battier can play a big 2. so td can go 2 ways - get a big 4/5 and have a huge team, or get another wing and try to run run run

First thing that jumps out at me is that he's taking roughly the same number of shots but nearly 2 more 3s a game. I wouldn't say he sucked on Memphis but I would say he's been better on the Rockets. I think he works better on a team where he gets to knock down the wide open jumper due to a superstar creating double teams.

all that said, he teams up with ben wallace well, is a nice guy to run a PNR with for iverson, and i think you got solid value at this spot.
This is nice work, but as you've said I think he'd work very well with a help guy like Wallace.

btw I think darko kind of backed himself into a corner with the Marion pick. If he would have taken Deke like he should he would've been better off.

Hell yea. There are maaaaybe 2-3 picks a round that go at the time I am thinking they will go, nobody's board is going to be the same. Also, you guys have no idea what each poster is trying to do in later rounds etc. Some of you act like you have it all figured out and it makes me roll my eyes.

yea if you're going to for defense then you should start with the center position as that is the anchor of all defenses

Come on, that's the whole point of this draft. It would be boring if we only got to troll Epip about McHale and HSP about Marbury, everyone is going to get criticized at some point.

btw, i know no stat is "great," but a compilation of them all typically yields a fairly accurate view of a given player. in battier's case, his ORtg is great - fair enough. however, his PER is career 13.8, best year was 15.3 in memphis at age of 25. i know his intangibles are great (i'll never argue that) but he has a poor A:T ratio; his usage is REALLY low (14.2 career is "too" low); and for a SF his rebounding isn't great. (it's merely average) i have seen shane play alot, and would never argue about his defense, but his offense is basically:
Stand around at the corner 3pt, if ball is tossed to him, take an open 3 if there (3.2 a game @ 38.9%, fantastic) or kick it back out to whomever is running point. He is the exact opposite of "versatile" on the offensive end. His FTA for his career is 2.2 a game. Man, people need to sell me a ton harder that this is a good pick, because I'm not buying it. Sorry TD.

RE: Battier

I think that having a guy who can defend at an elite level is pretty common, but the number of guys who can do this and hit from 3 land is dwindling down to a few. Of these choices, Battier may be the best fit. With regards to Ron Artest, he's a different breed since he can guard any position, so I don't think it's a fair comparison. Battier's 3 point shooting ability so much more than just being able to hit the occaisional shot. It makes doubling off him, or even sagging very punishable if you've got someone that can score down low.

As it stands, TDark doesn't have much in the way of down low scorers, but the draft is young and TDarko probably has his eyes on a sleeper stud.

I planned on taking him in about 40 picks if he was available, so even though it may have been a reach, Battier wouldn't have been there when it got back to Tdarko. Trading down could have worked, but at this point nobody really has a clue where someone is going to go.... Christ there are 3 guys who I'm shocked have not gone yet, and I'm beginning to think I could get one in the next 20 picks.

tdarko,

oh quit playing the old wise man. It's not about me having it all figured out. I got two slow white dudes for cryin' out loud (who both happen to be awesome but whatever). I just think there is some real primo talent around right now that won't be around very long, whereas heady defender/shooter types will be around for a while, even if they aren't as good as Battier.

I do think the pick is not terrible like I said, as Battier is a very solid player and he'll never really hurt your team. Not close to worst pick of the draft. I just think you could have done better.

of course I probably shouldn't run my mouth as I'm going to pull 2 or 3 major reaches because I'm more about having a team full of guys I like rather than competing in some gayballs pole where even though we're building franchises we have a bunch of assclowns voting on 3 or so years. Plus my team is going to have to get started on an intense breeding program to purify the earth.

The artest pick was very bad.
People have commented a little on his game but it does not matter at all. He's a complete lunatic. You cannot build a franchise around him and Rodman, that's just not possible. You're sure of only one thing; they're not going to both playing on your team two years from now
