Assani,

Wanted to trade Lebron for Duncan and swap pick for round two and three if Moncrief was still available( I really thought he was going to fall). WOuld you have taken it? I see that you was eying the same combo.

Is everyone's hate for the Boozer pick bc he's paired with Drik, bc he went to early, or both. I know clark said both but I echo what assani said in that Boozer is a worse defender than brand but I don't think it's an awful pick here except for the fact that neither can play center and Dirk at SF would be interesting, although he does seem to have the skill set for it in that he's a good penetrator/shooter.

Both. I like Boozer enough, but hate big guys who stink at D.

I can honestly say that I never once thought about drafting Marbury should he fall to me, and I probably wouldn't have thought about him in the next round either...or the one after that.

Christ dude, I can think of one much better PG who is still available just off the top of my head, let alone dudes at a lot of other positions who could fit with Barkley and don't go around killing teams and banging franchise employees.

You based your pick on him on horrible hypotheticals like a coach being able to salvage him and blah blah blah. When you have a career as long as Marbury as had, you don't get to play "What if?" in this draft. What you see for a vet like him is more or less what you get.

I think others have elaborated pretty well why he wasn't a great pick, not a great shooter, shoots high volume in spite of it, high turnovers, low steals. Overall a good but not great offensive player who wastes too many possessions and not a good defender.

Not that it's a perfect or even a great gauge, but,

2 All Star teams
2 3rd team All NBA
0 All defense teams

When I scrolled down in this thread and saw Marbury, I honestly thought after about a paragraph HSP was going to be all "just kidding, here is my real pick." So yeah, that's that.

Round 2 Pick 70

Terry Cummings

I am very happy to be selecting Terry Cummings with the 70th overall selection in this draft. Terry was rediculously talented and is often overlooked because of the way he ended his career, some say he stayed around for one too many years...regardless of that - his first 10 years in the league make this an easy argument. Before he got his "career ending" injury in '92-'93 Terry averaged about 22 and 9.

At 6'9" and 220 pounds - Terry redefined the small forward positon...he was a pioneer of sorts and became (arguably) the first of many players to be dubbed as "point forwards"...he could do it all...he was extremely versatile and very athletic. Offensively he could do it all - he had the mid range shot as well as a wide array of post moves which caused a lot of match up problems (he could take it inside or out, didnt bother Terry either way)...on top of that - he was a beast at the defensive end of the court while ending up with top 10 finishes in Defensive Win Shares 4 times in his career and was in the top 8 in Defensive Rating 2 years in a row....above all that - Terry was a gifted rebounder as he cleaned the offensive glass like not many could in the history of the NBA...as he finished in the Top 10 for offensive rebounds for 4 years and finished his career 18th on the all time NBA Offensive Rebounding category.

Pairing Terry with Chris Paul is going to be a very explosive and dangerous combination - Im sure they will cause a lot of problems on the offensive end as well as the defensive end. Get ready for some run n gun Basketball boys!

My Team So Far:

Chris Paul
Terry Cummings

I guess that means I either know more players to choose from, or I have bigger balls than you.

Good rebounder, good passer, decent shooter, I love it. Paul needs the D help after all.

At the risk of being laughed out of the thread again, I guess I'll give it a shot.

Starting at 24, JO had 4 straight seasons of 20+ PER and he's blocked more than 2 shots a game every season since he turned 22 (Read: every season he's had significant playing time). He rebounds well and has shown a willingness to play through injury during the playoffs.

His offensive inefficiency is because he was on a bad offensive team and was asked to carry the load.

in 02-03 O'Neal shot 47.9% and his team shot 43.7%
in 03-04, O'Neal's horrible 43.5% was still a hair above his team's average
in 04-05 the Pacers shot a horrid 42.8% while O'Neal plucked in 24+ a game on 45.2% shooting

It's not like he brings his team down with his bad shot selection, he was a good offensive player in a bad offense. That won't be the case when paired with a great point guard and (hopefully) some good shooters.

Christ, I sorta deserved it for Isiah, but for taking a 20+ PER guy who plays great defense with the 67th pick...

Okay, you're right, I'd rather win games 110-100 than 51-49.

The JO pick has a few negatives, but I think it has some positives also. Don't sweat it. You get a pretty sick peek out those two. It won't be long, but it could do some damage.

The interesting part is will you continue going for guys like this and win now with little upside for the future, or try and protect them with some young guys so you can try and transition into a new generation down the road.

Interested to see how things turn out for you.

As a point of interest, I'm a very casual NBA observer (this thread has me mesmerized though) and Cummings is the first player picked who i wasn't familliar with.

Arenas is a PG. No he is not ur typical pg but he still plays pg.
