Mullin is also a very good passer and rebounder for a 3, I really see no downside to the pick. Pairing two extremely efficient players together isn't a negative.

You've got two very high usage players who play completely different styles. Mullin was successful with Nellie's fast-paced game, then he went south as soon as Adleman became the coach. His team did very well with Bird, but he never quite enjoyed the success. Obviously it's not just the system, but that's the key proponent. Stockton was a half-court guy, good on the break, but a dominant half-court PG.
And finding a great PnR big man who can shoot lights out and have the ability to roll and finish is quite rare, you usually get one or the other.
I'm not saying it was a bad pick, it was a very good pick. I'm just not as high on it as some others.
