And I just want to mention again that there was absolutely no way you'd ever get him as I pick before you and had more ammunition(sp?) than you. Hell if Nicholas had PMed me at a normal time and not 6:30AM, I would've traded up and got him(not upset at you Nicholas, just the situation).

The Spurs don't play an offensive system geared toward putting up big assist numbers at PG. How much you want to take that account is up to you, but I just listed some things I'd take a look at in considering it.

There was a great post by someone in my Sample Size thread that made the point that all of these stats we use only measure what was done, not necessarily the skill that went into doing it. Something to think about when discussing any player.
This is an interesting point, but in my admitedly very subjective opinion from watching TP, he does not have the passing/court vision skills of the elite 10+ apg assist men.

agree with the first two. Only agree with Kidd because Payton was available. Strongly disagree on Amare- even though I'm a big defense fan, Amare just brings so much on offense. 25.2 points on 65.6 TS% is just insane.

assani,

The thing with defense in this league is that most teams are going to have a lot of offensive weapons, so having someone on your team who can't play D is more of a liability. However, I think this points to defensive zeros being more of a liability, rather than elite defenders being more valuable. Also a guy like Chauncy can only cover a PG, so while he is helpful, there's only so much an elite defensive PG can do if you have mismatches elsewhere.

I also liked TH b/c he proved he could work in 2 systems. Nellie's system and Pat Riley's slow ball and I readily admitted he was a chucker, so right now I can run 2 systems a slow down like PR or a fast one like Nellie which is great since I'm not sure who will be available next round. Right now I have 1 really efficient scorer in Howard and 1 inefficient one in TH who is a play maker and I wanted the best play maker available.

Also TH's TS% is 53%, and TP's is only 54% for his career so it's not like he's that much more efficient offensively like everyone is saying, his FG% is definitely higher but it's b/c he's a paint scorer and not a shooter.

And as I pointed out earlier when he was on the Heat with Mourning in the paint he played pretty damn good D and it's a ton easier to play D when you have a rediculous paint defender which I kinda have in Howard.

Bobbo man....come on, I've tried to give you the benefit of the doubt since you're a regular around here. Next time you do this you're getting penalized 5 slots. If you do it after that you forfeit your pick for that round. Third time and you're getting replaced. Sorry its come to this, but you just havn't stopped.

Heh, I was attempting to trade Nicholas (battschr and Zoidberg before him). I was really worried that either Victor would take him, or somebody would trade up ahead of me. I offered pretty heavy IIRC.

Yeah, there's a good chance we can knock out a few picks quickly if that happens.

Bobbo may need to give his pick to someone for that to happen.

Basically, I'll give my advice but I don't try to change people's opinions, and I think everyone should do the same. For example if someone says to me that they're thinking about taking Player X but I think thats a horrible pick, I won't say to them "thats horrible don't do that." Instead I'll point out the positives and negatives of the pick and let them decide themselves.

As has already been said, this would temporarily increase discussion but be bad overall for discussion. Risky or unpopular picks are good because they cause debate. If we all give advice before each pick then less of those happen.
