"He was totally unstoppable because of his quickness, diversification of moves and the long arms that gave him an angle to release the ball over a taller man or more explosive jumper."

"McHale's unusual combination of size and agility made him a hot prospect."

"McHale would be the first to admit that the 1987 Finals probably shortened his career. He played the six-game series against the Lakers on what was essentially a broken foot. The pain was so bad that he used a patio chair from the hotel pool as a walker, yet he played 40 minutes each night. The Celtics lost the series in six games and McHale underwent surgery on his right foot during the offseason. "

Epipen, Mchale wasn't quick by any stretch of the imagination. He didn't get his shot by out quicking people with footwork. It was crazy to watch Mchale because he wasn't very quick or fast but would be able to get people up into the air with his upfakes and could step through and contort his body in crazy ways to get through the defense. Go back and watch tapes of Mchale, I believe there is a hilight reel of him on youtube. The guy never blew by anyone. Ussually the players were all over him and he would step through or fade away. That's what made Mchale so hard to guard. He would look like he was smothered but would be able to step through or get you out of position and make his shot. Mchale was great on the Celtics and obv a big key to their success but to say that the guy was fast or quick is not accurate he was pretty slow but very effective. Hakeem = quick big man.

I laughed out loud when I saw the Bynum pick. Even if you want to overweight size or upside, the list of players better than him is so long I couldn't even begin to start.
Less than half a season at 13/10 and he's a second round pick? Mark Blount put up half a season of very solid numbers too (he is so bad that I feel like it is okay to mention him. No one is taking Sherell Ford either). Sure he has some upside. But there are so many multi-year allstars available, plenty at the 4/5 spots, that this pick is beyond absurd.

I guess, but its still bunk.

3 months early in the regular season are just not enough to extrapolate a career from. And if you do (which is BS IMO), its @ a 35 game/year rate anyway because you can't deny that during the entire course of the sample, he played 35/82 reg. season games and 0 playoff games.

What happens when the 24 hours is up? Does it become a mad dash to the podium like when the Vikings didn't get a pick in on time, or do we keep waiting?

It's really hard to judge as all the picks (aside from a few) have been really good so far, but here's my draft grades right now:
A+
Ewing and Nance
A
McHale and Chauncey
Pierce and Gasol
Brand and Ray Allen
Deron and Marion
A-
Deke and Gilbert
Iverson and Big Ben
Nash and Manu
Payton and Sheed
B+
Reggie and Rodman
B
Worthy and Bosh*
Yao and Melo
Webber and Dumars*
C
Wade and Bynum(1)

*For the life of me, I can't understand why there was so much love for Webber and Dumars, yet Worthy and Bosh got hated on. I really can't differentiate between the quality of the 2 teams. Maybe Webber/Dumars are going to be a little easier to build around, but as of right now their quality seems equal to me.
(1)If this thing goes on long enough, the Wade/Bynum connection could be sick. Wade has proven that when healthy he can do it with a great big man (which Bynum could prove to be (huuuuuge if) and Bynum looked amazing with Kobe (who DWade when healthy is not a far cry from)

Oh and in case you didn't notice, I didn't rate my own team (Kemp/Hill).

in the premiership draft they just kept going with other picks, when the guy who wasn't posting eventually got there he just picked wherever he was. i dunno if i like that, i'm just saying..

eh obv he isn't as quick as Hakeem, but every scouting report I read on McHale says he is quick/mobile etc. Obv he isn't lightening quick, but he is far from slow like Bird was.

I will grade these teams too but will include my team as I really think as of now I have the 2nd best pairing (although I won't have a 3rd round pick so that will hurt me some). But as of now (can't give anyone an A+).

A:
Ewing and Nance

A-:
McHale and Billups

B+:
Payton and Sheed
Pierce and Gasol

B:
Kemp and Hill
Brand and Ray Allen

B-:
Deke and Arenas
Nash and Manu
Deron and Marion
Webber and Dumars

C+:
no one

C:
Iverson and Wallace
Reggie and Rodman
Worthy and Bosh
Yao and Melo

D:
Wade and Bynum

well you have to remember, your one of the few guys who traded up so your picks should be better.

yeah, it's no surprise the two guys that traded up are rated to have the "best team" right now. they should!

I would like to point out once again how lol stupid it is to trade down in this draft. It cannot be stressed enough.

all,

we already all know how bad the bynum pick is. you don't have to name players (which, as has been noted many times, is against the rules) just to cement the idea. i, personally, am going to assume it's a crappy pick, unless somehow this thing lasts until the 2008-2009 season and bynum shows over a period of time that he'll continue to be able to dominate. until then, it sucks, we all know, so stop naming players.

Didn't the guy who is up to pick next say something along the lines of "oh god I hope it makes it to me tonight otherwise I won't be able to pick until Saturday"...

Well, today is Saturday so might as well give him a chance to log on and pick imo...

to those complaining about the lack of pick,

relax, it's been 20 hours. even if we had a 24 hour rule he still wouldn't have been obliged to pick. IMO we give him until tonight and then re-examine. personally i don't mind waiting, i just wish the conversation was more constructive.

I disagree. Half of these guys think the NBA modern era started in 2000. The first guy traded down from 41 to 60 and and moved up from 160 to 100. There have bee quite a few bad picks since 41 and while it obviously depends who he takes at 60, I think his decision so far has been justified.

i dont really get why people think ewing/nance is clearly the best team thus far. and i watched pretty much all of both of their careers.

they will def not be league best in attendance as ewing teams are absolutely painful to watch.
