Good q. I think because we get players in their peaks, (or roughly around that, alot of clamor about that) all of our teams should be contenders if not the favorites in a given NBA year. i think interestingly alot of those title teams will have a better "1-2" so to speak, but we will have far superior depth. i think.

The average team in this league will be way better than the average team in the NBA because 10 or so more teams doesn't make up for a whole generation more of players. However there also won't be any rebuilding teams or horrible NY Knicks type teams in this league, so the top teams may not be as great...probably similar actually.

This is almost exactly what I was thinking. It's important to note though that most of the contenders this year are led by players who aren't at their peaks. I would think it's not usually like this.

Bulls II weren't at their peaks. Spurs first team wasn't. Nor was their most recent team. Lakers were at their peaks, so was Detroit. Miami wasn't.

What was that thread about, I looked at a few posts in the middle of it and they didn't make any sense, like most threads especially in bbv4l

Well 30 pages through 10 rounds = 150 pages through 10 rounds...maybe 170 counting post draft commentary and debates I'd say

I'm not even in the draft and just spent a couple hours wasting time on it. From my research there are a lot of really good players out there, many from the 80s/early 90s. Looks like most posters are favoring modern day players so I suspect by the end of this thing there will be a few teams with a bunch of older, less recognizable players and those teams will be the best.

Just looking at this decade, the Blazers and Kings teams at the turn were at their peaks. So were the Mavs and Suns from a couple of years ago. The 02-04 Nets. Were the any other major contenders in this time frame?

Edit: I guess the Blazers are debatable.

I think Melo might be the worst pick of this draft. There are literally millions of guys in the talent pool who give you exactly what Carmelo gives you that will be available in round 9 when I'm picking coach Larry (let that be a warning to ye all)

I really thought Carmelo was great value for that pick and would produce better feedback. Am I overrating him or is the Yao/Melo pairing just too bland/uncompatible?

Melo has never been THAT good. He's a solid offensive force. Has no 3 ball but great midrange and a strong finisher in the lane. Mediocre passer/assist guy. Pretty weak defender.

Just think Yao and Melo has the making of a very soft defensive front line.

yeah, this. plus when looking through availabel players, offensive-minded 2/3 guys that like the ball in their hands but dont really do anythign else that well are the most plentiful resource. carmelo was going to get picked within the next 50 picks, that is for sure - but that said, do you really think you couldn't find someone LIKE him (but not quite) next round, and expended this pick on someone who can give you other stuff? (that you CANT pickup easily next round) that's the argument, imo, against taking melo here.

also, the combination of yao/anthony as others and myself have said kinda forces you to look for a specific fit player (like, defensive minded 3pt threat) .

On a scale of 1-10, how angry would you be if I went coach Larry in Round 8 and your girlfriend in 9?

When we get done with the draft, I would like for you to please list for me all the guys available in Round 9 who would "give you exactly what Carmelo gives you." Dramatic overstatement for the win imo.
