Its funny when I hear about the CP3 is not a good defender argument. Im not much of a stat guy - but anytime someone wants to prove a point here - they turn to the stats (where Paul has monster defensive stats)...but now I hear people saying "ahh nahhh - those stats dont tell the whole story"...

cmon - I know some stats hold different value than others - but defensive wins is a solid stat...but even stronger than that - just watch him play D...the kid is solid on his feet and has rediculously quick hands and great anticipation. As I said earlier - Nash doesnt even come close to Paul defensively.

hopefully the back end of this draft goes pretty quickly, a good amount of the drafters in this range have been in this thread a lot

i have 5 players who i would REALLY want at #40 and #41, and 5 others who I wouldn't mind getting so hopefully they all aren't taken by then

I realize that, but I just wanted him on my team. Make him the towel boy or something.

I know, just having fun. If Sloan was eligible, you can kc could compete for best team with duplicate player/coach.

Round 1, pick #31, Allen Iverson

At this point in the draft, many of the multi-year all NBA studs and hall of famers have been picked. I want to build my team around an all-around talent. There's noboby better left on the board, in my humble opinion, than Allen Iverson, AI.

The third most prolific scorer in NBA history, with 27.7 ppg, behind only Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, AI will be an offensive force on team fanmail, no doubt. Not only can AI score at will, but he can do some damage on the defensive end as well. For 3 straight years, from the 00-01 season thru the 02-03 season, Iverson led the NBA in steals per game. Some may say he took some bad shots and had too many TO's, but he's had to carry too many teams on his back. In this league, he will have some help.

In addition to his basketball skills, the 6'0" 165 lb. PG has such passion and a burning desire to win. The kid has put his body at risk many times over in the pursuit of making a play. He loves the game and wants to win and lead. I couldn't think of a better guy to build around at age 24.

Here are some of his many accomplished stats and awards:
Career averages of -
27.7 Points
6.3 Assists
2.3 Steals
3.8 Rebounds
41.8 Minutes
21.4 PER

00-01 NBA MVP
3 time 1st team all-NBA
3 time 2nd team all-NBA
1 time 3rd team all-NBA
9 time All-Star
96-97 Rookie of the Year
3rd all time in points/game
5th all time in steals/game
4th all time in minutes/game

a quick highlight

My team so far: Allen Iverson, PG

Underrated on this board. Decent pick, but you're going to have to really sell it to a lot of posters when it comes time to evaluate your franchise.

I was wondering when Iverson would go. I agree with Clark's comments and frankly I'm one of those ppl. But there's no denying that he belongs somewhere in this first round, so I have no problem with the pick at this point. If I took him, I would put him at the 2 and try to get an effective PG to pair him with, this should minimize TOs and help sell him to other posters.

I agree he's underrated. Longevity a huge plus. But I just hate how hard it is to build around him. He's the king of fruitless penetration (just watch a nugs game). He's not a good shooter. Holds on to the ball too much.

I really think that one Finals run was a team built PERFECTLY for AI. A Larry Brown defensive job where AI dribbling and taking hard shots wasn't actually detrimental to the team since they really had no offensive help.

And I think you pretty much have to stick him at the 1 for a majority of each game.

Another option, definitely, but the PG I have in mind will be gone in the next 20 picks.

Great pick. I think AI >> JKidd, and not that close.

If he's the one I'm thinking about, I think he gets taken in the next 5 picks. I kind of feel bad for 30-35 picks. They don't get elite talent with their pick, and there is enough space between the two picks that you probably won't get that 2nd guy you want. The 35-40 people can plan better without a huge reduction in talent.

I could just be making crap up, but these are my thoughts.

It's exacerbated by the fact that this is a regular snake draft, and not reverse snake like it should be. I said from the start that the top several picks have a virtually insurmountable advantage in this and I'm even more confident of that now.

this is true, mostly because of the nature of the talent distribution of our sample

the beginning of the 3rd round to the end of the 3rd round will be drastically different in talent, just as the beginning of the 1st round and the end of the 1st round is.

i don't care though either way, because i think the fairness factor and the simplicity factor balance each other out.

i'd expect to see the first picks want a traditional snake, and the last picks want the reverse snake, ldo

Where is the break?

The first 10?
The first 15?

5?

since when is making things simple more important than making things fair?
