Something like that. Maybe we could establish a 2 tiered voting system, one for the popular vote, then one with a panelist of established NBA posters from the forum (the draft is going to take weeks, if not months, so this shouldn't be a big deal). So one point to the popular vote, one for the elite vote, and then perhaps a league wide vote as the third tier. The possibilities are endless.

BTW as an arbitrary #, I'm thinking like 36 as it would be good for tourney possibilities (not perfect, but we could figure something out)

I think we have to cut the number of people at some point...35-40 seems about right just so we can keep things moving.

A much more interesting question is whether you would pick David Robinson ahead of today's centers based solely on his college career? Or Bird ahead of today's forwards based on his college career and a single pro year? Everyone is basically saying, "yeah, they had a great career and belonged in the top 10." But would you consider some of todays <24 players ahead of a guy who played at a small school? Or a guy who spent his last two years in the Navy?
because that's the info we have and it makes a billion times more sense than trying to pretend what we might think if we didn't have all that info, and just 4 years of college to work on (that most of us never actually saw). That'd just be dumb, in my opinion.

Ok, I've listened and my official ruling is that its capped at 40. Once we get 40, you'll need someone to miss their pick in order to sign up. Also not reading the rules and/or posting in the wrong thread is grounds for being kicked out imo...its not that hard.

SHARK DOCTOR has done a really good job with the other thread. I'm not sure who exactly has asked to be in or not, but ask me or him and hopefully a mod can edit his OP in the other thread to include you.

Yea I'm not so sure I get that comparison. Bird's highlight reel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Timmy's highlight reel.

We're clearly drafting mostly based on career accomplishments and not potential coming out of college, but I'm curious to see where someone like Durant or Horford will get picked.

no Bird's highlight reel is solely him just throwing textbook, pronated thumb style chest passes to Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale who lay it in ever so gently.

I know, I feel kind of stupid for posting it now. I guess what I meant is, people don't look at Bird as being spectacular statistically or athletically, although most stat hounds can see his greatness... but still, nothing really jumps out.

Just think about how many points Lebron could average if he could actually make FT's.

My favorite part about Kobe's 30/7/6/2.2 (steals) compared to LBJs 30/8/7/1.8 is that LBJ has 50 pounds and two inches on Kobe. I mean the guy is a monster. LBJ has such a size advantage thanks to good genetics that you would think his year at age 23 would just crush Kobe's but it doesn't.

I think LBJ's a much better athlete but I'm not so convinced that he's a more skilled basketball player than Kobe.

I still think you guys should go reverse snake to make it more equitable.

I'd rather you cap it at 36 so I don't have to keep editing your post and so it's not still going on in September.

Can I get some more thoughts on the reverse snake from others involved?

And sorry for the continued editing Clark. Will cap it at 40 though, so just 4 more...I want to do a good compromise between what everyone wanted.

How about this
(1 = starting that round from the front, 2 = starting that round from the bottom)
1221122211. Or maybe 1221122112. But I think the former is overall more fair.

I'm against a reverse snake. After the first two rounds its going to be pretty even in terms of quality of players left. It's also a lot less confusing. I guess if everyone else wants to do it then fine, but i don't think it will make much of a difference in the end compared to a regular snake, especially if we have 35-40 teams.

Im against the reverse snake as well - like someone already said - after two rounds its pretty much going even anyway....plus....and this is a huge PLUS!....it will be a lot easier just keeping it the way it is (snake) - with so many people involved - I figure less twists and turns the less problems.

Simpler the better.

In a normal draft the person who has the 1st pick(1st round) gets the 1st pick in all odd numbered rounds and the last pick in all even number rounds.

In a reverse snake draft the person who has teh 1st pick(1st round) gets the last pick in the 2nd round(same as above) but then for rounds 3 and 4 it flips to the opposite of rounds 1 and 2 so that person would get the last pick of round 3 and first of round 4. Then for 5 and 6 if flips back to how it was for 1 and 2.

Basically if the top few picks are really valuable then it makes things more fair for those with late first round picks. However its more difficult to understand and keep the correct order a bit. If the top few picks are not hugely more valuable than the later 1st round picks(no moreso than a top 2nd round pick is better than a late 2nd rounder) then a normal snake draft is best.

<not directed at kidcolin>

On the Dan Patrick show he was interviewing Barkley and he asked him how many points he would have scored, in his prime, against Bird if Bird guarded him the entire game.

He said, "well he would foul out within 6 plays."

Dan says, "assume he doesn't foul out."

Barkley says, "probably 75-80 points."
