because to me it's insane to think that a league commissioner or an entire league of players would agree that this is kosher. but if it's anything goes, then do the math and figure out if it's +EV

you guys should try it. adds a lot of fun to the league when you get people doing stuff like this. Also is by far the most balanced league I have been in. The winner had been 9-4 each of the last 3 seasons and entering this week the standings were:

8-4
8-4
8-4
8-4
7-5 (most points and will get entry fee back for that-gonna edge me by ~4 total points on the season and appears to have benched ELI down 60 on the week to lock this up)
6-6
6-6
6-6
6-6
5-7
3-9
1-11

Just like the NFL, parity is good.

If I played in that league I would absolutely make it my goal to "sell" a win against me every week and make more money than the league entry fee while going winless

would be tough. not much market for early season wins.

Rooting for teh Skins so that the rest of the regular season is more exciting

Though a loss would be fine because we'll be done hearing about the LEAST until next season

Seriously this.

Having grown up in the DC metro area, I'm a Skins fan. No one I know is equally rooting for both Balty and Skins. Was I rooting for Balty in the 2000 Superbowl? Sure. But I would never change allegiance based on who is more successful.

Being both and O's and Nats fan, I understand, because the O's were all we had for a long time. But once the Nats came to town, and we finally had a chance to tell Peter Angelos to fukc off, that was a great day. I still inherently have a soft spot for the O's for rooting for them for so many years.

Are there New York fans that equally root for the Jets and Gmen?

Selling players would be more profitable I would think

None of it is rational and you can literally do whatever you want!

I mean, lets not act like "I was born on this patch of land, therefore I'm going to root for the team that plays its home games on that patch of land" is rational to begin with. So its absurd imo when people try to argue that I "shouldn't" be able to root for two teams but rooting for one is the epitome of perfect sense.

If you guys want an explanation, this is actually really similar to what happened with me. The Redskins, under Snyder, were horribly mismanaged and I hated being such a laughingstock. The Ravens, meanwhile, were incredibly well managed. And so it became easy to root for the front office that I thought was actually deserving of success. However, despite that, I can't change the passion I grew up with as a Skins fan, and when push comes to shove I will always choose the Redskins first(although there are definitely years where I like the players on the Ravens team a lot more and would root for them if they met).

if the skins defense shows up, giants win.

if the skins defense suddenly gets replaced by people who know how to cover receivers, skins win.

When you root so hard for 2 teams though you actually are rooting for 0. You are just jumping from team to team each week as the need for a defense mechanism arises. Weirdest **** ever.

Nobody's saying you "can't" think you are rooting for 2 teams. We're saying it doesn't work like that. That's why the thought is absurd. Because it's completely illogical in every way.

It's not close to like... "state pride" rooting or something where if your team is out of contention early and the other team in the state is going far in the playoffs and you are like latching onto their wagon because they are doing your state proud.

Rooting hard for both teams from the get-go is something entirely and decidedly Assani.

i knew/know one, dude just bandwagoned whichever team was doing better, even though he swore he was a true fan of both. what actually ended up happening was that he was pretty much disowned and 'lol gtfo'd by his friends from both fanbases. eventually we made fun of him enough that he "gave up" the jets a few years back. lol.

nah. Realized I was wrong about 1. Falcons when systolic started posting about it. They're still better than the 49ers, Broncos, Packers, and Giants tho. 1. Houston seems right and unfortunately the Pats are also better than the Falcons though I don't really understand how or why.

I know a few Skins+Ravens fans and this is basically how they're all treated.

this isn't fantasy football, it's an exercise in negotiating and bargaining (I'd bet most of these people are b-school friends). Interesting concept, and seems like it could be fun as long as you trust everyone enough to make sure all the negotiations are above board, but I'm not sure if I'd want it to replace my other leagues with just this.

it is weird, but it happens. I grew up in New England and am a die hard pats/sox fan. However, I live in DC and will root for the Nats/Skins. Part of it, for me at least, is that I enjoy attending live sporting events , and rooting for the home team makes the game so much more fun (this is especially true for baseball). Plus its fun to get into the atmosphere of a major city when the sports teams are doing well.

In practice there are very few negotiations. I think there have been 3 deals this year involving money and 2 of those were draft day trades for pick slot (someone moved up from 12th to 3rd in all rounds for a small cash amount predraft and someone swapped some later round picks for other late round picks for some meaningless amount). Also the guy with the #1 waiver priority sold that priority some week to another guy so he could pickup someone I forget. A few years ago there were no deals involving cash. It is 8 people from b-school and 4 from undergrad though.

But if the Pats lose a bad game are you honestly thinking "at least the Redskins won"? I doubt that's the case. But I get the vibe that is exactly the case with Assani.
