I love how they tried to put Hominick's hat on after the fight, forgetting he grew a second head.

GSP has the ability to make skilled fighters look so average in comparison to him

also has the ability to make boring as **** main events

it takes two, to tango...or something like that.

yeah it'd be nice if he went for the kill, but i guess i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he couldn't see out of that left eye, and that was causing him problems.

Shields probably did well enough to get a rematch, if not right away, then the next fight. even though he didn't add much entertainment value either.

oh boy another 5 round jab/takedown heavy decision from gsp

guy is so much fun to watch

last night's fight was not takedown heavy. might have been better if it was though.

i meant all he does is either jab his opponents to death or take them down and lay on them. last night he obv chose the jab of death.

man he was so much fun to watch before matt serra knocked him out. in retrospect that might be the worst fight in mma history because it has resulted in tons of horribly boring fights from gsp who used to be one of the most exciting fighters in mma.

yeah he's definitely not a finisher. seems gun shy since he lost to Serra, choosing to win safe rather than risk much to end fights. wonder if it has hurt him, or will eventually. anyone have the PPV buys for his fights going back to Serra?

he's still massively popular afaik. people love to get behind a winner.

Yo messier, that was pretty funny last night when they threw you and kyprios in the two empty seats behind me when they thought they were empty but were really occupied by two guys grabbing beers.

meh, GSP was half blind for 3 rounds... he had the first 2 rounds in the bag, what's wrong with trying to just see the fight out and keep it at a steady pace under those conditions?

i agree it was pretty boring and stayed up till like 6am to watch it, but he still outclassed Shields imo, he even apologised to everybody in the post match interview, saying he wanted to KO or submit JS...

has he been half blind for all of his last 6 fights?

we really need both gsp and silva to move up weight classes

it should open up the ww and mw divisions, and silva as a lhw is interesting even if he can't beat jones

I'm over gsp at this point. Yes he is very good at what he does but he is not enjoyable to watch and hasn't been for some time now.

Towards the middle to end of the 5th it sounded like the crowd started booing.

he probably needs an opponent that can push him

could be pretty nice vs diaz

if he's so much better than everybody else then maybe he should try finishing a goddamn fight.

the goal of the ufc is not to determine the absolute best mma fighters in the world. it is to make money by providing entertainment. and he is not entertaining imo. obv he is still pulling in the big bucks but if he keeps doing this horribly boring **** against fighters he clearly outclasses my guess is there will eventually be a large fan backlash against him.

Go watch bum fights then. Because I want to see the absolute best MMA fighters in the world go at it. That is entertaining.

if you really wanted to see the best in the world you would be advocating ufc 1 rules where we got 50 minute no-round fights with guys laying on each other and never moving. you want that or are you willing to admit that there is some compromise necessary between exciting fights and crowning the absolute best in the world?

edit: i believe your opinion is the standard internet mma fanboy opinion. now the funny part is that all the same internet mma fanboys absolutely loved pride back in the day and insisted it was way better than ufc. and pride went out of their way to push entertaining fighters that weren't that good like bob sapp and charles bennett because the fans went nuts watching their fights.

well i also thoroughly enjoy being repeatedly told i'm "not a real mma fan" even though i've been watching mma regularly since the mid-90s. but hey i don't like watching uber-conservative fighters that completely outclass their opponents never take a single risk because they know they can easily win yet another incredibly boring 5 round decision so i must suck.

you know what would make mma way better imo? every fight is declared a draw after 3/5 rounds without a winner. i think that would be the end of this horrible gsp-type **** real quick.

It's refreshing to see fighters who say they just want to put on a show for the fans no matter what. To become a star in MMA you need to both win and be exciting. The thing is with GSP is he has earned his spot and will continue to be a huge draw regardless of how exciting his fights are.

I'd rather see a boring fight between two of the best in the world than an exciting fight between two randoms, but at some point I think you owe it to the fans to do a little more. Ideally there would be no judges decisions, because you know, this is a fight, not a see who can pile up more jabs/control someone on the ground match.

well i think a lot of gsp's rep is based on the fact that he used to be maybe the most exciting fighter on the planet before serra knocked him out. and once people start rooting for someone it takes a hell of a lot to get them to stop.

also i think that 15+ years of being a true mma fan has really turned me off to current gsp style fighters

all you noob fans that just want to see the best in the world haven't seen enough ridiculously boring fights to become truly jaded imo
