Mendes with a full camp probably beats conor, edgar is the worse matchup for conor & he hasn't beat him. Let's not act like Max hasn't gotten alot better, didn't fight mcgregor when he was 21 & since been on a 11 fight win streak, that's not an easy win for conor.

Conor should be on the backburner though of everyones minds, he will fight floyd n retire, only other fight he may come back to mma for is nate diaz trilogy.

You would bet money on Mendes vs Conor is Mendes had a full camp? Not a chance. Conor would KO him inside 1 round if they prepared for each other.

Let's be fair though, Holloway has only been stopped once and that was a sub - and he fought McGregor when he was just a kid. From memory, McGregor didn't look like stopping him but won clearly on points. I'm just giving Holloway credit for a bigger improvement since then.

Wow I didn't know Chuck is trying to comeback. Tito may be right, is he broke? Sucks if that is true.

I can see his plight, however, ufc did say in the event tj misses weight ray borg would be on the card to fight in his stead so therefore he still gets paid even if tj misses weight. Think it was good he opened up about the negotiations, still hope he takes the fight with tj as at the end of the day the sport is about the fans, nobody cares to see him face borg or pettis as they're too young & unproven for a title fight, man up & fight tj please.

Yeah I can see his plight too but I mean, they aren't lying when they say nobody cares about flyweight. Is what it is bro. They aren't not marketing you because they are being dumb or something, you just really can't make them much money.

Not sure what he thinks his leverage is.

I think he sees it as he is the best p4p in the world, but UFC sees it as he is no different than talking to someone who is the 6th ranked guy in another division. They just don't have any desire to meet any of his demands.

He is right that the "if TJ doesn't make weight then Borg is ready as the stand-in" part is complete BS tho. lol UFC.

The other thing about marketing is dj is a ****ing snooze on the mic. The wholesome champ who is confident instead of cocky is old. I personally prefer that, but I'm already on board. For a dude like him, who has no competition in his class, who is already at a disadvantage because he is small, and who is not tapped to be the poster child he could generate some interest if he started running his yap. I don't mean complaining either. Talk ****. Say he could beat Jon jones. Say your opponent shouldn't be in the cage with you. Call the shots. The blueprint is there.

But if he's rude, who would join the Mighty Squad on twitch?

Fighters fight and promoters promote. Shouldn't be on DJ to hype himself up when he already does that in the cage.

That's some shabby treatment of one of their own btw with the Dillashaw nonsense.

They made Ronda ****ing Rousey a star without her opening her mouth ffs and they can't put just a little bit of effort into maybe their greatest champion ever. Jokers.

****s do their best to promote nearly every lady mma fighter on the planet ffs with undeserving co main events - should be on the preliminary prelim card (what used to be Facebook free fights lol) at the very most.

McGregor did tear his acl during that fight and won pretty comfortably. Unless max goes on a crazy run and really builds up a following i dont think mcgregor ever does the cut to 145 again

Fighters have to help promoters promote though. They are their own best hype men.

All the stories about DJ involve him being a boring turd who won't talk trash, or even make predictions for the press.

The press are literally saying "hey say something interesting and we'll write about you and you'll sell more" and he's like "nah".

Yeah like I said, he is not the poster child. That's unfair. People don't like small fighters. That's a shame. He has no competition that is worth noting or getting excited about. Darn. That leaves what he has control over. Your rule about fighters fighting and promoters promoting is true, but the fighters who also make an effort to promote themselves--even terribly--get attention. I have never liked that a fighter can get an underserved match by calling someone out, but if you refuse to either see how it works, or see it and don't want to participate, you get what you got.

Eta: I railed against this on your side for a long time until dodger made me realize finally that the reality doesn't care what "should" be the right way.

I agree with both of you that DJ could help himself just by waffling a little bit. Guy obviously feels he's above that and tbh his record backs him up. He's not a 1 man show like a boxer btw, he fights for the best fighting organisation on the planet with a **** load of money and numerous ways to promote the fights/fighters. Seems they don't want to do any work.

Like I said, they made Ronda a star and she didn't have to open her mouth and they done their best to make Micha Tate a star ffs.

We've talked about the lack of hype, now what about the demands made by Dana on the champion? Out of order expecting any fighter to train for one guy with the huge possibility he won't make weight so there will be a stand in ready to fight anyway. GTF Dana.

Sorry but DJ is totally off...
Hate or like McGregor , CM fight anybody and he even accept a last minute match with Diaz at a higher weight ffs.

I mean DJ can do w.e he wants yeah but dam, he should stop believe he his the best p4p if you don't want to fight a guy who goes down in your division ...
W.e the complains he has.
Moreover if he gets paid anyway .

McGregor even accept mendes fight as well..

It's hard to sell a guy who's so small he'd get murdered by 75% if college football players in a fight

Yet they can sell Ronda with level 1 mma skills in comparison?

C'mon, if they wanted to promote him they could have quite easily.

People mention the size thing, any yah, there will never be the overall interest in DJ's weight class that HW and LHW gets, but the biggest star in the company was fighting in a weight class 20 lbs. heavier and Cody at 10 lbs. heavier (and capable of making DJ's weight as well) has star potential if he strings together a couple more performances like vs. Dom especially with his in-ring antics. DJ just brings nothing extra to the table. I almost feel like Dana and co. go out of their way not to promote him just to be like "well **** this guy, if he's gonna make 0 effort to promote himself, then we are too".

Guarantee you that in a real fight dj destroys some random 200-250lb college football player, think you guys need to hit a mma gym 1day and test that theory. A 100lb advantage actually isn't that huge considering the guy has literally zero fight experience, let's not get carried away with such a ridiculous statement.

He's headlined multiple free cards along with at least one PPV.

He just doesn't bring in eyeballs. They can put lipstick on a pig all they want.

Speaking of lipstick on a pig.

If you think the UFC can just choose to make someone popular you are off your rocker. That's like saying, "why didn't the NBA push people to be stars the same way they did Yao Ming?"

They're attractive (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) women, one with a boob job, that's a bit of a different situation from a midget. The UFC has never singularly "made" someone a star, they can just facilitate the process in a quid pro quo way.

What reason do you give for the UFC not choosing to "make" DJ a star?

Once the average fighter for a weight class gets below 5'8, 5'9 it starts changing things re: people's interest.

Other thing is that Conor had people to fight, DJ doesn't. And it's not due to him being so dominant, the division has been paper thin forever.

I think the UFC tried to make Phil Davis a star the same way they have other folks, just doesn't stick for some. That's DJ.

Honestly, he prbly needs a better agent. He needs to increase his exposure via commercials or something.

I want to see fighters fight tough fights, DJ doesn't seem like he wants to. Maybe it'sd because I only have seen 2-3 fights of his and don't remember them, but if he was jumping up in weight to fight someone I would remember that. I really don't give a **** if he has some UFC win record. The fighters getting paid are the ones that talk or have fueds with other greats and win. Connor became a Superstar in only a couple fights because he talked and promoted himself.

AND he's an electric finisher. Same dynamic with Ronda. That's prbly the biggest factor that seemingly always gets overlooked.

If DJ was ko'ing dudes left and right in the first couple rounds it would be different. He's a methodical tactician. His fights are pretty boring even for me.

It's like watching someone face the CPU at it's highest difficulty, that's DJ.

Bones would be bigger too if he was more like Rumble or Liddell w/ finishes while remaining unbeatable. Excellence intersected with excitement.
