Agree, you can sell me on a lower weight class guys dominating in combat sports.

Prince Naseem, young Floyd, Mighty Mouse, I can buy that.

I think women's is gonna continue to fade w/ Rousey gone. Although if they can get some attractive ladies in there like Tate, Waterson, PVZ at the top then maybe it has a little legs, tough to say. Feels like novelty will wear off either way.

Most MMA fans who like women's MMA just want something else to jerk off to.

Leggy blonde girl with big rack will get it back on track.

Re: The MMA Thread

I think the womens division has become slightly more interesting recently, especially with the new 145 division opening up which gives cyborg a shot at actually making weight without almost dying. The question is will the new division bring in a few new faces into womens UFC?

I think the biggest issue with these "boring" weight classes is the lack of competition (DJ). When rousey was walking through everyone and submitting them within 1-2mins of the first round, womens UFC wasn't even worth watching.

I think the two recent losses for rousey has made the womens divison worth watching again. i'd love to see amanda nunes and cyborg throw it down at 145. (that fight could definitely be main event of a big UFC card)

I also think germaine (current 145 womens champ) will get her head ripped off by nunes or cyborg

Re: The MMA Thread

Not sure I buy the midget argument, since bantamweight is really exciting and is/has been a decent draw. A couple of factors is that 1) DJ isn't good at self promotion and 2) as DJ himself as alluded to, there aren't enough *******s and trash talking at flyweight

Would love to see DJ move up and see a DJ/Garb/TJ/Cruz four way fight series for the next 2 years

yea probably right, the difference in 10lb's when your fighting at 125lb's (and walking around 145-150lb's) is huge in comparison to say someone like woodley who is fighting at 170lb's but probably walks around 200-205lb's.

just ask cyborg or mcgregor how much those 10lb's mean, an they are ALOT bigger than DJ

cyborg can't make weight at 135 without diuretics and conor legit looked like death on the scales last time he was at 145.

Re: The MMA Thread

DJ did well at 135 in the past & he's alot better now, to act like he would get murdered at 35 is crazy. The 125lb diviison needs to be scrapped, really shallow & boring division.

The guy probably cuts 25+ lbs to make weight. I am sure one weight class isn't such a big deal. Boxers do it time and again.

Not really true, boxing has much smaller gaps between weight classes and even than a 3-4lb jump can be too much given the competitiveness of some divisions in boxing.

Boxers don't cut nearly as much weight as the MMA guys. The overall advantage to being the "bigger" man on fight night is a lot more important in MMA than what it is in boxing (mainly due to grapling/wrestling and the ground stuff) where as boxing it's more important to be fast, carrying extra weight would generally slow a boxer down.

the GOAT of boxing (floyd) used to weigh in 2-3 lb's under at times, and would cut <10lb's to make weight from what he walks around at.

Re: The MMA Thread

Dana said he is sitting down with Floyd's people to work something out, said if the PPV sales big Floyd will get 100m+ and CM will get around 75ish.

My guess is that means Dana probably wants to tie more of Floyd's purse to the PPV sales and not sure Floyd will be crazy about that incase the fight flops.

But there is no other amateur in the world he can make close to this $ fighting. As I said before, that is CM/UFC's leverage.

Re: The MMA Thread

The cuts in MMA/UFC are so dangerous and need changing ASAP, there's probably no better time to change it as so many fighters seem to be keen on jumping up and down divisions.

The weigh in's on the friday morning giving them 36 hours to re-hydrate is a complete joke. Khabib most recently proved this and i also heard RDA lost consciousness for a few minutes due to a nasty weight cut before fighting Alvarez for the title.

Weigh the fighters in the day before as they do and then just before fighting. They shouldn't be cutting 10% of body weight in water before being punched in the head 36 hours later.

there has been talk about monitoring the body weights of fighters leading up to the weigh in and then again just before stepping into the octagon. They could easily implement a rule that they couldn't cut anymore than 5% of their body weight through de-hydration.

as it stands fighters can do whatever they want including nearly killing themselves... an thats before fight night!

So any chance it gets done in July? I kinda doubt it because they'd want to promote the shjt out of this fight, but who knows.

I would think maybe Sept, not sure why Floyd would need to fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend against an Irish guy but he always likes Sept.

This new announcer has an annoyingly vanilla voice.

Such a random hiring: an ESPN anchor who used to work as a studio host for WWE.
