No shame there.
Wasn't taking anything away from him, just making the point that the HW division that Lesnar had success in wasn't significantly worse than some of the other divisions during that time.

Lesnar, Mir, Big Nog, Couture, JDS, Werdum, Gonzaga. Not a bad division, and much better than it was a year before that - they signed Nog/Werdum/Cro Cop in quick succession to replace guys like Arlovski/Sylvia leaving. Good trade, imo.

Lesnar was just ridiculous physically man. 'What if Lesnar had trained since college instead of going into pro-wrestling' is probably the most tantalizing what if in MMA for me. Lesnar arrived at a time when there still weren't a lot of great athletes at the top of HW, and he could impose his physicality and will on more skilled opponents. The Cain/JDS/Overeem types are the types he can't really deal with - skilled guys who are also really athletic. He could beat up the smaller and pudgier HWs all day even if they were more skilled than him.
My memory was that JDS, Werdum, Gonzaga and big nog hadn't fought yet in the UFC at that time.

Conor met with Lorenzo Fertitta in Las Vegas, posted a picture with him saying:

"I came up under Lorenzo Fertitta and the Fertitta regime.
Nobody in the history of the fight game has come up as fast and as young as I have.
I now, at 28 years of age, have my eyes firmly set on the 'highest paid fighter' and 'highest earning athlete' accolades.
Understand and respect what you are witnessing here.
Because not one of you can do nothing to stop it.

Filipino food is great but it's tough because neighbouring countries have some of the best cuisine on earth.

Oh yeah, has to be. In something like MMA where there are only a few big entities I can't imagine there isn't something like that.

yeah it's hard to compete with vietnamese or thai honestly. But I love a good seafood pancit, plate full of lumpia, some pork adobo, mmmmmmmmmmm. SE Asian food in general is elite.

Programming reminder: Fedor/Mitroine, Pitbull Freire/Josh Thomson on Bellator tomorrow night. Kongo also on the card and even Josh Koscheck is making his return.

Such a likeable guy... Honestly what is the appeal to people of these guys saying how much money they make. It's not like he is going to share it with all his fans, on the contrary. Serious question because I don't know the answer but it seems to work because Mayweather and McGregor keep pulling in all the monies and thats all they talk about.

Mayweather does it to be a heel. Conor is just aping Floyd when he can't think of any better trash talk.

It makes sense for Connor to talk about it because he draws much bigger #'s than the rest of the UFC fights combined. So if he says this, it gives the appearance that he is bigger than the UFC. He is a larger than life figure and his #'s and thus the $ he makes from them prove that.

This allows him to position himself as bigger than the company and its belts.

Decent card but watching Fedor lose to a mediocre HW is going to make me sad. Wish he'd stayed retired.

Dana said GSP is officially back w/ UFC.

“It could be the winner between Tyron Woodley and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, or it could be Michael Bisping,” White said when asked about a potential first opponent. “Georges has also talked about fighting at 155 pounds. He says he can make the weight.

“But I have no idea when he’s going to fight right now. We don’t have anything booked and literally haven’t talked to anybody about it.”

I think there is 0% chance GSP could get to 155.

I can see Bisping since he seems like an easy mark.

I know UFC doesn't care about this stuff but I don't think you can let GSP jump the line for an MW title shot with Bisping, they already did that with Hendo. Bisping probably doesn't have a ton of interest in fighting Romero since he'll probably lose and it isn't a big money fight so I'm sure he wants GSP. But you're really, really starting to make the belts/rankings meaningless if you do GSP/Bisping. And I think GSP would get owned by the top 185ers after that fight.

Seems more likely he fights winner of Wonderboy/Woodley.

Be cool if he fought Maia and the winner got the champ.
The MMA Thread Quote

Yeah, the MW contenders must be just itching to get a shot at Bisping and were probably pissed off beyond belief Hendo got in there first, now if they have to wait for a GSP fight to go off before they get their chance??? Not a good look.

GSP should get an automatic shot at the Woodley/WB match up. ****ing off with an automatic 185 match. Win your belt back first

Monster mid-summer card with GSP/Bones returning and both title fights makes sense. After the success of 200 and 205, I think they wanna do more loaded card PPV's like that. Granted 205 was a Connor card and 200 was a milestone card but still makes sense.
