I think Sterling vs. Yan (+rematch) was the only time since Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw in 2017 that the legit #1 contender got the title shot at 135. Since then it's been mostly "champ vs. guy from a different weight class" or "champ vs. famous guy past their prime after long layoff" or "champ vs. famous guy from a different weight class past their prime after long layoff".

Main event was as terrible as expected. Rest of the card was pretty entertaining though. I checked the scorecards, two judges had Durinho up 2-0 after the first two rounds so he would have won that fight if JDM didn't catch him late in round 3.

FWIW, Maycee Barber has always been kinda bulky but now she looks like a professional power lifter or crossfitter. Her boxing is still the opposite of technical sound but at least she can bull rush people through the octagon now.

Instead of watching a 3+hr broadcast, I think I'm going to start viewing the UFC through the eyes of a slightly tipsy and very excitable Volk, while he nails the analysis and predictions.

That was pretty entertaining.

Personally I can't sit through the 3.5h broadcast (plus prelims if they're good). In the past I usually got up at 5:30 on Sunday morning and watched the fights during breakfast before my group run. These days I'll turn off the volume between fights and try to get some work done unless I have people over to watch.

Madlex, thoughts on the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight? The odds have been all over the place!!! A couple of weeks ago, Paul was -600, now there are just about even, with Paul getting a small (odds) edge (-110). This is all over the place, and I figured it would be as such, given the names involved and how their reputations affect the betting market. Anyhow, I bet a hefty amount on Jake Paul at -200, thoughts on that latter line???

edit : granted, what was presumed to be a 10 round bout is now 8 rounds, but still not enough of a reason to explain the TITANIC fluctuation in the betting market...

Sorry, kinda lost track of the recent developments re Paul vs. Tyson.

Assumption for the initial lopsided betting line was that we're talking about a classic exhibition fight where people showcase their skills without anyone getting KO'd. I still remember the first Floyd Mayweather exhibition where everyone was shocked when he knocked that Japanese kickboxer down 3 times in the first round which led the other corner to stop the fight because they didn't expect for that to happen.

If you have an almost 60 year old guy in there with crazy power (which is the one skill that diminishes the slowest) there's serious injury risk involved on both sides. A normal showcase also would benefit Paul because he actually has a 5 inch reach advantage over Tyson so everything that's mostly from the outside is good for him. Fun fact: Terrence Crawford the current top 147lbs fighter has a 74in reach compared to 71in for former heavyweight world champion Tyson.

Long story short: If Tyson can turn this into a brawl because it's basically a pro fight that's only labeled "exhibition" because of how difficult it would be to get that fight sanctioned (or if they actually get it sanctioned) his chances are much better than what I initially thought.

Thx friend, always appreciated!!! I guess I got it in bad then . I tried selling my bets (taken 3 days ago), but I would lose 50% on cashing out!!!

I wouldn't worry too much yet. We also shouldn't forget that if Netflix is planning a long term partnership with Paul that would work out better if he won. Also last time Tyson did an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. he dominated that fight basically start to finish and probably won 7 out of 8 rounds. One judge had it a draw and another one 80-76 Jones which means he gave Jones 10 points for every single round (!) and Tyson 10 points in 4 rounds.

BetOnline opened Robert Whitaker at +175 vs. Khamzat (-205) for their 5 rounder at UFC Saudi-Arabia.

The Atlantic City card on Saturday actually looks pretty decent with Luque vs. Buckley, Chris Weidman in what is probably his last UFC appearance and Blanchfied vs. Fiorot as the ME. Those two might be the best female 125lbs fighters right now in a division that's surprisingly entertaining anyway compared to the rest of WMMA.

After that only two weeks until UFC 300.

That went fast. It's Reaper +135 vs. -155 for Khamzat now. For someone like myself who is a fan but far from an expert, the way to make a couple bucks in MMA betting is taking advantage of terrible opening lines like this one or Gaethje vs. Max.

Happy for Weidman that he got a W but letting him win on a technical decision after his at least 4th or 5th foul and a hard warning in the second round seems wrong.

He basically benefited from poking Silva in the eye two more times in the finishing sequence. Probably should have been a DQ or at least 2 point deduction.

Great decision by Weidman to add eye pokes to his game, that's what was missing. That jab cross eye poke combo, beautiful stuff.

He'll be calling for a title shot soon, despite his wrestling looking thoroughly unintimidating.

Right eye gouge followed by left eye scratch. They never see it coming..

WTF main event. Must be nice to be able to just wait for your opponent to come in, jab them right in the face, retreat and then do it all over again. Twice a round you throw a 1-2 so nobody falls asleep.

Yeh saw his post on IG with the security cam footage.

Not sure what went down, but I can say, if I've somehow annoyed and pissed off JJ looking like that, I'm going to be as friendly as frickin' possible, and retreat to my car!

Full UFC 100 card ahead of 300 this Saturday.

Great card overall. Hendo KO'ing Bisping is still one of the best moments in UFC history.

Hard to believe two days out from 300 we still haven't lost a single fight from the card. Would have laid at least 3:1 that not all 13 announced fights actually happened.

Gaejthe back down to -160? surprising

Max must be having a good camp, easier time putting on the weight than vs Poirier
