Don’t get why Almeyda would take this job he has. dude was a lock to get the next big coaching spot that would open up here in Mexico.

Holy crap, Hurtado with an almost impossible hit for a Monterrey goal. Pretty sure I could try that 10 times and be lucky to even make contact with the ball once.

that counter from Vancouver was gorgeous, the 1st cat to shoot should've gone near post after creating that great chance by beating 2 defenders

Yea once he stopped I thought the move was gone then he amazingly split 2 defenders to create a ton of space. Has to be finishing that at that point as you're right the entire counter was brilliant

I cannot express how glad I am that four of us hit the road at 6am for the LAFC-SJE game. What an experience. We literally shook their stadium up and down.

Pretty tough to do in a league with so much parity.

They probably have the best coach in the league now too and even Almeyda can't do anything to control the dumpster fire.

Not sure what the point was of bringing in Almeyda if you're not willing to open up the wallet a bit and bring in some guys he actually wants.

Also, the Impact haven't been impressive in the least, but have 6 points from their 4 games, which were all on the road and is pretty good. I'd take 1.5 pts per road game any day of the week.

Last year they didn't draw a match until week 20ish and this year they have no draws in 4 matches.

I wonder if Remi Garde consciously tries not drawing matches or if it's just a coincidence. If it's intentional, then it's brilliant. I've never understood why teams were so content for draws in a system where winning is such a huge reward. Even if by going all out for a win in a tied match you end up losing 60% of the time and winning 40%, it's still the right move.

giving up 7 goals is a good strategy to avoid draws

The Timbers scored a fantastic goal late in the 1st half, and legit otherwise didn't threaten the entirety of the match, but for the dying moments when LA were playing not to lose and Portland finally showed some urgency.

Zlat at 37 is still leagues beyond everyone on the pitch at technique

If Zlatan can start 28+ matches is the goal scoring record his? I believe he has 25g in 26 starts so he'll have to pick up the pace a bit, but it's Zlatan so you never know.

Agree with this so much. Always does my head in how draws are praised as a decent result where as losses are catastrophic. There is the occasional good draw depending on the matchup and position in the table, but far too often they are not worth the risk of not going for the win.

as far as all the quakes talk goes, Almeyda said after the 0-5 that he has a four-year plan to improve the team. OK, that's great, but you get no credit for saying that after 4 games played, 4 lost, 2 scored and 14 conceded. These might be mostly not your players, but the mistakes at the back are so glaring to anyone watching, surely there are some under 18s in the academy that can track runners. Anyone can see that the only real attacking threat is Hoesen and it's incredible that he hasn't gotten a start yet.

I mean, have you ever seen an xG chart give you a more complete representation of how bad things are. From the Red Bull game, but the one from LAFC isn't any prettier.

Anyway, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE returns tonight! semifinals first leg

TONIGHT 10 PM Eastern
Tigres vs Santos

THURSDAY 10 PM Eastern
Monterrey vs Sporting KC

Tigres on the board first thanks to the AR missing an offside.

Big rumor, Chicago Fire moving out of Bridgeview and moving back to Soldier Field next year, possibly to get a soccer stadium in the future in the city. The biggest hump is paying off Bridgeview since they still have 9 figures of bond debt on a stadium nobody particular cares for, but sounds like MLS/team owners have the funding to get a deal.

From that same source/rumor mill, Chicago Fire would rebrand as Chicago City FC. I guess the NBC show may have pushed ownership to consider a different name, but i'm not feeling CCFC.

Tigres better, but the scoreline definitely is a bit flattering to them. Nahuel up to the task tonight in keeping a clean sheet, too far for Santos to come back without an away goal.
