The money was spread out over two years. For the price, it probably would be tough to get an equivalent player on the open market, if the upper end of what you are willing to spend is million on transfer fee plus million a year.
He has proved himself in MLS. And was previously teammates with Bedoya. So the risk is pretty low, other then injuries which are a real risk. He has averaged the last three years in goals and assists what Pontius career year was. Pretty excited.
This may be a trade where both teams win.
