like a bunch of guys

melia (kc)
bendik (orl)
robles (nyrb)
johnson (nycfc)
hamid (dc)
gonzalez (dal)

have all been better in every imaginable way than howard this season. but since they don't have much name recognition, they probably won't see the field in the ASG.

Garza has been playing like the best American LB in the pool and it's ridiculous he's not on the GC roster.

Melia is the best GK in MLS right now for sure.
Sean John has looked so much better under Viera's system of playing out of the back, but still gives up some goals he probably shouldn't.
Hamid hasn't grown out of the occasional howler, which is incredibly disappointing. Because the ones he gives up are extra bad.
Robles and Gonzalez are varying levels of good

Bendik is bad though. Not LA keeper bad, but probably "Alec Kann't handle aerial balls" bad. A starter in the league, but in a way that says more about MLS GK quality than his quality.

Montero
Shea* - Reyna - Davies
Laba^ - Hutch

* - or Bolanos/Techera/Ibini
^ - or Tchani/Jacobson/Teibert

starts to resemble a real team 'n' stuff

I'm late to the discussion but I think the gap between TFC and Chicago is smaller than you guys think. For sure we have more depth than them, but their best 13-14 players are really good. I think if they signed 1 more DP that was as good as Schweinsteiger they'd be right there.

What we do have going for us is a tonne of depth and a smart coach who knows how to use it.

Also something to be said for having so many cheap Canadian kids rounding out the roster - Raheem Edwards has been a revelation this year as a LWB.

Might take a weekend trip to Chicago to go see TFC vs Fire in August

I'd prefer Techera >> Bolanos >>> LOL Break Shea

That really is a decent team though. No reason they should be in the Minnesota/RSL/DC/Colorado/LAG tier

ya that one spot is kind of a weird one

Techera is great in like 1/4 games or so, and then pretty bad in the others
i thought Bolanos was great last season, but is looking old this year
Shea is usually ok, might have the highest ceiling of the group
and this Ibini guy has looked useful in the few appearances he's made
(i assume he'll also be Montero's primary backup)

i guess it's good to have options seeing as how they're terrified of burning Davies out, but ideally you'd like one of those guys to step up and claim a starting spot

Only one out of that list that is legit good in Melia and I'd have Robles as a #2 but his team stinks. Think he's a legitimate keeper though. Point is none of them have been amazing and Melia is in Kansas City so casual fan probably never sees him. The gap is not large enough to displace Tim Howard, who hasn't been great but far from terrible and is one of the biggest names in MLS as a GK.

US Open Cup Quarterfinal time! One game nightly, tonight through Thursday.

Tonight: SJ v LA, a California Clasico in a half full Avaya as opposed to a sold out Stanford Stadium two weeks ago. Galaxy are missing Zardes at the gold cup while Joao Pedro and Alessandrini have not traveled; the Quakes are missing four players to the Gold Cup, and have no DMs available.

Tue: SKC vs Dallas, the winner of this tie will be the favorite to win it all

Wed: Miami vs Cincinnati, only one ticket for Cinderella at the final four, who will it be?

Thu: Revolution vs Red Bulls, in a battle of 2017 disappointments.

As far as I can see, there is no national TV for these games, but free streams should be available through the clubs or US soccer's website.

hell, even RSL put 6 past this riff-raff, Onalfo can't be long for this world. LOL at Gignac being linked to them.

Speaking of transfer rumors, Chicago may be looking to add a winger. Young, Colombian, property of Porto, scored at the last world cup. not too shabby.

I think Chicago is already better than Toronto. It took a few matches for Chicago to work out the kinks with Schweiny, but they've been unstoppable since May (8-0-3 last 11 matches). Even their whole body of work has been more impressive according to Sagarin's power rankings. Can they even add a DP though? They already have 4 players on big salaries and they're already buying down 1 of Juninho or Accam, doesn't seem like they could make another big player work, but I don't really know how the salary rules work.

In any case, a Chicago-Toronto series would be sick, which probably means we won't see it and one will falter along the way.

As for the bottom 4, Sagarin has DCU, Colorado, RSL, and Minny as appreciably worse than the rest of the league (and Minny even a couple notches below those other 3).

Yeah that didn't look good at all. Glad to see he is able to give the thumbs up. Not sure what Urruti was supposed to do to prevent that. Seems like a freak accident.

FC Dallas straight imploding here. Pretty embarrassing to have even needed extra time and now give up the goal and get 2 men sent off.

Galaxy also signed the Dutch Pele. Can probably convince a nonzero % of the fanbase that it's the real one.

ASG roster announced

snubs: Romain Alessandrini, Tim Melia & Ike Opara apparently, and definitely David Accam as the only player itl t5 in goals and assists, especially given that the game is in ****ing Chicago
(in b4 someone fakes an injury so Accam gets in)

also, the roster for the HGP game vs Chivas de Guadalajara's U20 team was announced, highlighted by 16yo Gold Cup leading scorer Alphonso Davies

Joining him are five players who played for the United States at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this year: defenders Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake) and Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union) and midfielders Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls), Derrick Jones (Philadelphia Union) and Brooks Lennon (Real Salt Lake). The squad is selected from MLS Homegrown Players aged 22 or under.

would be kind of funny if Davies is still around playing in the 2023 Homegrown Game lol
