Unreal scenes in MTL

1st penalty is saved...but wait, keeper left his line too early.
2nd penalty is saved...but wait, keeper left his line too early.
3rd penalty is hit right at the keeper who holds his ground in the center, but doesn't get enough of it and it deflects in for the game winner in the 98th minute.

such a ridic rule on the PK just total freeroll for the kicker he gets to run up to the ball stop wait for kicker to flinch and if he makes it then it counts if he misses he gets to rekick.

It's an angle shoot by the keeper to hop forward off his line and then dive to the side as it cuts down a lot on angles. It's pretty clearly in the rules that a foot must be on the line and it's very strictly enforced b/c I've seen a lot of PKs being retaken. The simple solution is: DON'T HOP FORWARD

I'm seeing most keepers do a little hop in place to set their feet and then dive to the side, which seems the smart play b/c you'll never be off your line. If you want to angle shoot a clear rule, then fine, but you're playing with fire and I guess you better time it perfectly, but you can't cry when VAR can clearly pause when the ball is struck and see if you have a foot still on the line.

Now, the stutter stop could be seen as BS as well, but a lot of guys are doing it, and it's never called, so it's clearly within the rules. The way I understand it is that you can't completely stop your momentum. In the 2nd PK last night, Toye starts a quick run up, then slows his momentum a ton right before kicking the ball, but never comes to a stop, so that would be legal with the current rule. So the beef should be with the rules in place and maybe they need to look at and possibly ban the stutter step, but as is, every call was by the book.

OK well here it is if anyone cares. It's the first pair that goes at :20 in the video. Pepi and Zelarayán. OK, just noticed that Zelarayán gets 2 pts. and Pepi 0. Like Pepi literally couldn't even pass a ball on the ground to a target. Then is all over the place trying to hit the other targets. I know it's just a dumb passing challenge, but c'mon man.

Then compare that to Cabecito and Canelo at 9:00, who amass 5 pts. in their first 6 shots. Then they start doubling up on targets before realizing that targets are dead once 1 player hits it. Just hitting perfectly weighted pass after perfectly weighted pass. They probably could've scored 20+ on the normal targets, compared to Pepi's 0.

If you check the early days, when it was just 2 all star squads divided by conference/nationality, the matches were almost always wide open and every single one hit 4+ goals, sometimes 10+ goals.

Then MLS went to the format where they played a big club team. This led to matches where at least 1 side was more organized, and led to lower scoring matches.

However, I feel like this match will be much more in the vein of the earlier matches, where the play is wide open and players are more worried about putting on a show and scoring than playing tight, organized soccer.
