Yeah Home field matters

Union 10-1-6 at home and 5-8-4 road

There are others more lopsided

Not sure what else they are supposed to what they are doing now.

Hate three game series and everything on apple though.

Regular season has its own thing, the Supporters Shield
Guy. Literally nobody cares about the Supporters Shield. The league results aren't even shown in a single table. LOL Supporters Shield.

The FA Cup is a competition in England that literally everyone can enter and qualify. if the 2p2 all-stars want to form a team and wear Yeezy's and skinny jeans we can theoretically qualify for and participate in the FA Cup. It has no basis on how teams finished in the league. It's not a playoffs to determine at champion at the end of a meaningless regular season. Also pretty much nobody cares about the FA Cup anymore. Offer a team a league title or the FA Cup and they'll laugh at you. Most big teams don't even take it seriously until like the last 2 rounds. You don't play 38 games in England, every other team in the league home and away to determine your champion via the FA Cup. I can't believe we're having this discussion or making this comparison. When is the Supporter's Shield parade? I must have missed it

The Supporters Shield is indeed a legit trophy. In leagues around the world the overall leader in points is considered the true champion. And the winner of it is presented the trophy with a celebration ceremony. A parade is needed? Lol

In American pro sports that’s not how things are typically viewed. But there are indeed many soccer purists that consider it to be the true champion.

The MLS Cup is just simply an additional trophy with playoffs after the season that Americans are used to.

Honestly your posts are rambling and bizarre and I didn’t read that long incoherent paragraph.

But feel free to come up with something different for MLS Cup. Is all this rambling because SKC beat St Louis? It’s a knockout tournament dude lmao

And I lol and smh at you

Unless you propose a new format, what exactly is it about a knockout tournament that is insanely dumb?

It has been dumb with regards to long layoff but what would the new MLS commissioner LFC_USA propose?

The floor is yours

No dumb tournament at all. Single table regular season. Champion determined by playing every team home and away.

If you absolutely insist on having 2 divisions then have an MLS Cup between the winners of each division.

Having 2 divisions where more than half the league make the playoffs, where team with negative GD make the playoffs is insanely dumb. To have your dumb playoffs take 2 months stretching across multiple international breaks is done.

All of these things are contrary to what makes soccer such a great and compelling sport. But America gonna America

Thanks for specifying what you would propose and I mean that sincerely

The main problem with you propose however is that midway through the season 80% or more of the league is playing for nothing

There would be no relegation battles. And there’s no trying to jockey up spots for Champions League/Europa berths.

They need to avoid having such a long drawn out playoff schedule though, that is incredibly stupid. And the Apple deal turned away many casuals

Is final at least on normal TV?

I stopped watching that league, I’m not cheap but I’m not paying $15 a month or whatever to watch MLS soccer lol

MLS has the Balloon d Bobby Orr winner (or whatever that is) and feels like it’s going backwards

Scheduling is brutal and will probably always be an issue for MLS.

There's basically 0 chance I'm ever watching MLS when it's late season CFB unless it's Montreal or maaaaybe Messi. Although maybe the novelty of the latter will wear off a lot next season.

Last Friday, MLS news-dumped an announcement that they'd no longer be sending first teams to participate in the U.S. Open Cup, replacing them instead with developmental sides. Commissioner Don Garber has been openly critical of the Open Cup for months on the stated grounds that the tournament is too small-time for MLS clubs and that the schedule crunch of balancing league play alongside cup play is too severe, especially now that MLS sides are participating in an expanded Leagues Cup with Liga MX teams. On Wednesday, USSF told them they couldn't just withdraw from the oldest tournament in the country.

The Federation cited the code of professional league standards, which states, "U.S.-based teams must participate in all representative U.S. Soccer and CONCACAF competitions for which they are eligible."

so they can't withdraw (yet?), but if i know mls like i think i do, they'll keep trying to

kind of seems like a win-win; hopefully the smaller teams who are trying to win start shipping every year

picault was a useful player last time i noticed him a couple years ago, and hopefully the new defenders will bolster things. wish they'd done more to improve, but not much lost replacing the backup keeper and an extra forward who also barely played, so overall it could be a step up

any other big moves out there? loads of free transfers and undisclosed fees, not sure which other ones are relevant. also, anyone know anything about these signings? some decent fees there, which hopefully represents some quality

Montreal actually spent $2M on another guy, Yankov, from the Russian League. No idea if either are any good, but fans are going crazy b/c Saputo actually spent something. Those two $2M transfers and the 2nd and 3rd biggest in MTL history, to give an idea of how little they spend. The Josef Martinez signing seems really bad, unless his salary is miniscule (which I doubt it is). I think he'll be a TAM/GAM player, which usually means like the 4th or 5th biggest salary.

Nothing like taking a month out of the middle of the season. Montreal only even has 4 months where the average monthly high temp is >17 Celcius, and you're taking one of those away.

Re: TFC, 2 years ago they had the most valuable roster by a good margin and last year were 2nd (only b/c of Messi). This year: 3rd from last. Not sure what they're even doing there. YHTSI

My player to keep an eye on: Max Anchor. He's a 19 yr old GK, 3rd on the depth chart for VWFC, but can't think of a better GK name than Max Anchor.

mls is so funny with half the teams run like this

and yeah josef prob on tam/gam wages, unfortunate as he seems quite washed up. hasn't really been the same since that knee injury in 2020, was somehow quite bad on messi fc last season. seems old and busted, but it'd be cool if he turned it around in montreal. at least long enough for them to sell him for a fee lol

MLS HYPEEEEEE!!!

The annual part of the year where I pump myself up for MLS before being reminded about 2 months in how dumb this format is and how nobody cares. But for now I've lumped on Orlando City to win the Supporters Shield at +3000. Muriel is so so so so good and is still in shape and form for a big time team in Italy and joins an already really good and well balanced team. Obv lol Messi All-Stars is the play but after them Orlando is worth a punt.

Actually have some optimism for my local Red Bulls with the Forsberg signing. Another mega player who's only 32. And if Vanzier can survive being racist for the first couple months they could be fun to watch. I'll def be going to some games.

Guy I'm most hyped to see is my LPF transfer dude Pedro de la Vega in Seattle. I'll be tuning into some games on the most unwatchable pitch in MLS that isn't a ****ing baseball stadium to watch him.

All of my hype depends on T-Mobile giving me free MLS Season Pass again.
