1. I didn't realize we were going to have home & home playoff series after the opening wildcard round. talk about dragging the playoffs out...

It's even worse, they're best of 3

Just when I think the playoff format can't get any dumber, they find new ways to surprise me. At least Montreal did the honourable thing and boycotted the postseason.

yeah and it's only a best-of-3 for the first round. goes back to single-elimination afterwards lol

some morans spazzed that one year that a bunch of good teams lost on away goals or whatever, so they went to single-elimination. i guess they finally realized what i said at the time, aren't teams gonna be mad that they go through these long bullshit seasons to make the playoffs, only to not even get a game at home? so now we get *this*

they obv should have just left it as a 2-leg home&away thing, but all mls knows is obsessive reactionary tinkering, zero vision, so here we are... (on the plus side that should mean this format will only last for 1 season, but watch them be stubborn about it now lol)

3-1 for the fightin' wizards of kc, nearly at ht here. should be a crazy 2nd given the format

rofl

ref just knocked over a whitecaps player late in stoppage time when he had a clear shot.

LAFC goes the other way and scores an empty net goal (EDIT: was called offside)

whitecaps manager gets sent off for dissent

clown show

The regular season is super important when you can win your division and lose a best of 3 series to a team who finished in the bottom half with a negative goal differential. wtf is this league?

Just single table it and get in the Libertadores already

The answer is clearly 7-game series, starting with the quarters.

That’s just sports in the 21st century.
Not sure where you’ve been. Home teams do win quite abit in MLS but it’s up to teams how hard they want to fight for it.

Three game series in soccer is quite unusual btw

The only sports that matter for most of us.

But I mean if you want consider the MLS Cup to be somewhat similar to the English FA Cup. It’s a knockout tourney, plain and simple. Except the MLS version has a best of three on opening round.

There is a Supporters Shield that they give out.

Don’t get me wrong, league is a pile of chit though. Idiotic long drawn out playoff schedule. And due to Apple haven’t watched a game all year

was at this game ... mls club record 30k+ crowd, good atmosphere, pretty eventful 0-1 match

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2hl1VbyJPs

and yeah, horrible officiating. there was another penalty shout not included in that highlight pack that was prob better than the one they did put in. plus 2 lafc player committed like 5+ fouls without being booked. plus one of their guys should have been sent off with a 2nd yellow. fairly corrupt performance from the ref overall. quite a shame given the level of interest in the building

i assume poor vanni is gonna get ****ed by mls. got sent off, flipped off the refs, came back a couple times, and then after the game joked:

Quote:
presser starts off with Vanni Sartini asking if we were rolling, then saying if ref Tim Ford ends up found floating facedown in False Creek tonight, the cops might come looking for him
i assume they won't have a sense of humour about that, and will punish him harder than miazga storming the refs room, or kai wagner calling bobby wood a [redacted], or any of the other dumb bullshit that goes on in this stupid league

Probably the funniest thing to me in those highlights is that LAFC were dumb enough to get caught offsides in a 3 v 1 when the 1 isn't even the keeper.

A ****ing month basically of this pointless quarterfinal round. Any casual fan has long since lost interest. Only the fans who are posting on internet forums are left, even a lot of them are fed up with this.

It's just impossible to get excited about playoff soccer anyway imo. It's dumb in MLS, it's dumb in Liga MX.

You compared the MLS Playoffs to the FA Cup. I mean that pretty much speaks for itself on so many levels

yeah this playoff format is weird and dumb and bad, and i'm guessing we'll never see it again. did they ever explain the supposed logic behind it, because i sure as hell don't get it.

just go back to the old home & away 2-leg thing. guess i would also accept single-elimination, but it really does suck to follow this stupid, long season, make the playoffs, and then not even get a home game out of it

actually, i just looked at his stats and ... is he washed? might end up as a big waste of money, ugh

Damn you are so dumb

The MLS Playoffs is the equivalent of the FA Cup for MLS. Just that it’s a knockout tournament plain and simple. And yeah given a one and done sometimes the teams who proved themselves over a long season lose. Get over it

Lol lmao

It’s a knockout tournament, that’s the point

So stop complaining that the better team doesn’t win and regular season is a waste

Regular season has its own thing, the Supporters Shield
