There is no midfield, just 2 clusters of players at each end.

Blake was unreal and Philly hit 2 posts. Match could've easily been 6-4 LAFC, but I'm glad Philly got a point. They came to play instead of park the bus like 95% of teams and looked very dangerous going forward.

CCL lines are out and it's gonna be extremely difficult not to bet a great deal on Cruz Azul +308.

IIRC, many in this thread were astonished that Sporting KC was never rotating their squad with all their matches early in the season. It caught up with them in the CCL quarters and they were routed 10-2 on agg. by Rayados.

LAFC's been running the same squad out there every match, which is pretty bold this early in the season. I think it might catch up with them in the tie vs. Cruz Azul.

OTOH, it's always scary backing a Mexican side on foreign soil. They love to mail it in at times and rely on taking care of business in Mexico. And of course, LAFC is LAFC. Noone expected them to come back vs. León and they looked incredible.

I've been browsing this site called American Soccer Analysis that posts a ton of advanced stats on MLS.

So I checked out their goalkeeper expected goals allowed vs. actual goals allowed.

These were the top goalies in the league, and the highlighted # represents how many goals they saved their team vs. an average goalie. Turner saved the Revs over 8 goals for the season.



Now for the worst goalies in the league. Rata might want to look away. We all knew Evan Bush was awful, but just how awful? He cost the Impact OVER 10 goals last season. Not sure which is more pathetic, those stats, or the fact that the Impact kept giving an awful goalie so many chances. Thank god Henry is a genius.



Now for some Vela data. Just how good is he compared to the rest of the league? The column on the far right is expected goals and assists for the entire season (34 games). Vela is at over 1 xG+xA per game, Zlatan put up pretty good #s and Josef was also good. You might notice that #9 on the list, Carlos Gil, has less than HALF the production of Vela. That means there were only 7 other players in the league even half as productive as Vela lol. And 1 of them was Vela's teammate.



Zlatan and Josef are now gone, but I suspect there will be a few more players closer to Vela's #s with the influx of talent this offseason.

Not sure what you mean when you say LAFC haven’t rotated, they’ve had 3 different starting XI over 4 matches.

They have not been able to rotate the front 3 however, because of injuries to forwards 4-6. (That said, they signed one of those injured players after he had surgery, so that’s not bad luck.)

Vermeer, Blackmon, Jakovic, Segura, Blessing, Kaye, Vela, Rossi, and B-Rod have started all 4 matches. That's every position but 2.

atl utd finally signed a replacement for martinez - some guy who was playing in usl after being waived by columbus. no doubt his jersey is flying off of the shelves in atlanta 2nite.
