You mean exactly 0% chance with 1 wild card team vs. like 15-20% with a wildcard play-in game?

Seems like a HUGE difference IMO

I like the 1 game playoff. Treats the wildcard teams like the garbage they are

But there's a good enough chance every season that there will be a two game play in, just to make it to the division series. That team has no chance to win the WS, versus just 1 wild card guaranteed who may occasionally have to do a tie play in game.

The Brewers or Rockies have zero chance to win the WS if they have to play 2 play in games. Why even put them in the playoffs?

yeah, he gets a free pass because he got bailed out... I'll never forget it, I got tunnel vision watching the 9th inning of game 7. the ring was red, not black.

He and Theo have some chart that says in the short term, you increase your WP by 15% by overusing your very best relievers. Last night, Mark Grace said what I've long thought... you know real quick if they don't have good stuff. We have all these guys who are good enough for any regular season situation, but they're glued to the bench in the playoffs. I don't give a **** if we switch pitchers three batters in a row, but we've got to use more of our pen or we're toast.

It has also occurred to me that we give up home runs so Arizona is a less than ideal opponent. But that's ok, you always have to earn it

Also, this and this. There's no difference between 1 wildcard and 2 imo. It's a throwback to the days when only the division winners advanced. Now they have to win a series to play for the pennant, but they get to set their staffs, etc. Meanwhile, the 2 best teams out of the other 12 (!) get a shot to advance. That's pretty strict I think, and it obviously makes anywhere from a few (NL) to many (AL) teams' games relevant down the stretch.

Seeing if Cleveland will catch LA for home field in the WS has been fun, but Colorado-STL-Milwaukee is going to be great.

Hate this take, and not only because it's tx. AZ has had the better season and were good enough to not need a playoff. Them getting an advantage for that is a lot more reasonable than not.

tx whitenighting lolorado and brew-crew is an unexpected development

It's almost like his view is obscured by unnecessary netting

I'm saying AZ gets in and plays the team with the best record. That way they still have a fair chance to beat the Dodgers.

If the Rocks and Brewers have to play 2 play in games they have no chance to win the DS, so why even ****ing bother having them in the DS.

Hero, the Rockies are fun to watch, but I don't give a **** about whiteknighting. I just don't want to see ****ty playoff series.imo.

Saying the winner of a rockies brewers play in game goes on to beat AZ and then would have no shot in DS seems really bad. Don't think it'd affect their chances that much-they would have one less pitcher available for game 1, and that pitcher would be whoever is in line to pitch the day after the regular season ends, not necessarily the teams number 1 or number 2

Susan Waldman (I think that's her last name) on her and Sterling's booth: "as you know, we're not too big on numbers on here", and then proceeds to list some team records in September. Lol

Not surprised they're not big on numbers.

Seemingly went unnoticed, but Syndergaard started and threw 1 inning for the Mets yesterday, first game since April. Really odd

File this under things nobody cares about:

I was right next to the cards on deck circle friday night (2 rows up, closest seats).

Tommy Pham plays with an iphone 7 in his back pocket, lol.

It's been strange to me that everyone seems to be looking for anyone other than Altuve to be MVP when Altuve is a pretty classic fit (leads hitters in WAR, good surface stats, playoff team). No, Judge will not be MVP.

Hey cards, prepare yourselves for two KOs from the Cubs this week. Tomorrow we win the divison (and party IN YOUR HOUSE). Thursday, we sweep you out of the wild card shot.

Then you can take care of the Brewers and give us all the dbacks and rockies. It's the game we deserve to see

I have literally 0 comments on the cards cubs series, but that might be the most arrogant, ridiculously cocky comment I have seen in this thread all year and i love it

Looks like Pujols is going to hit 100 RBIs.

Has anyone every had 100+ RBIs and ended up -1 WAR or lower....?

In 2014, Ryan Howard had 95rbi and -0.3 fWAR.

I'm rooting more for a 3 way tie between the Rockies, cards, and brewers than for the cardinals to win outright. I want to see play in games monday tuesday wednesday!

Rockies 2-4
Cards 5-2, 2 of 3 vs brewers
Brewers 4-1

One time!

Also, if I'm the dodgers, if it gets to the point where on the final day of the season that if the rockies win they tie the brewers and/or cardinals, I'm 100% throwing that game

...and double post. Judge ties Mcgwire's rookie record. Is it too late to jump on that bandwagon?!
