This is my stance exactly. Hate the ****ing wave, and hate that its an 8th inning thing at Safeco.

The wave isnt about baseball though. Its in strong opposition to baseball, in fact.

The wave sucks man. Every person around just watches it slowly work its way around the stadium. At bats are concluding and half the people didnt notice.

Isn't that the point though? In a close ninth inning, people are focused on the game. In a blowouts in middle innings, there's no need to pay attention because absolutely nothing of consequence is happening, and people do the wave. I don't see the problem.

The wave is by no means limited to the 6th inning of blowouts. I can't recall going to a game at Safeco without one.

I used to get the wave started when I went to Dbacks games during college.

I am embarrassed for my past self.

Too cool now? I am embarrassed for your current self.

"No, kids. The internet decided the wave is dumb so you're not allowed to do it anymore..even if 40,000 other people seem to be having fun with it." #savethewave

No one gave a **** when the Cubs drilled Souza somewhat recently. Even after Rizzo got to chirpping and basically admitted it was on purpose. Where were the white knights wanting a 40 game suspension?

Oh no, it's Acuna that got hit! Off with his head!
I was more aware of this beaning than others because of context, but it doesn't follow that anyone is being hypocritical. And I'm not complaining that the Urena punishment was inconsistent with previous punishments for similar conduct. It was right in line with previous punishments, which is exactly the ****ing problem.

If you want this **** to stop, the punishments for beaning as well as charging the mound should be very severe. This should not be a part of a professional sport.

I assume that the players union is part of the problem here.

If people think that the fun of beanballs and bench clearing brawls outweighs the cost of players missing time from injuries, they should just say so.

Braves fan here living in Atlanta (Marietta/East Cobb)

I'm pissed that no one went out and kicked Urena's ass. I don't care about suspensions or whatever. Just think karma deserved it on his end and it will also pay us back. I'm convinced had someone ran out there and beat him down, he'd be practically the next mayor of Atlanta (or at least, Marietta/Cobb), and the team woulda rallied around the event. now we will probably just fade away. sad.

Brawls and hit batters are a part of the game.

Fatal car crashes are part of auto racing too. Does it follow that we should take no reasonable steps to prevent their occurrence?

The problem is the braves took the "high road" and didn't dish out baseball-justice. They bitched out on the brawl part. Yay!

Sometimes you just gotta take matters into your own hands and dish out punishment before the authorities give the massive 6 game suspension

Hell, they had to have a team meeting and take a vote before they even decided to be mad about it. Wtf was that all about? Someone should've gone to his ass immediately.

They didn't slow the cars down to stop the wrecks from happening. They gave them better safety equipment.

And no one is asking major league pitchers to throw softer.

Here is the question: would you like to see beanballs and brawls mostly eliminated from MLB, or does the fun of that spectacle outweigh the cost of injuries in your mind?

You guys must get super mad when NBA players stay on the bench during scuffles now rather than come off and get an immediate suspension.

Gotta protect that rep, even if it means missing the playoffs, right?

The NBA has a rule that says you can't leave the bench. So yeah, stay on the bench and let the people on the court handle it. If someone who is on the court when his teammate gets cheap shotted and a fight breaks out, and he heads to the bench to get away from it all instead of defending his teammate, I hope he gets ridiculed out of the league.

Question for you: if you're at a bar with your brother and some drunk breaks a bottle over your brother's head because he felt he looked at him wrong, do you have your brother's back and start swinging on the guy, or do you run outside, grab your phone, and wait for the cops to show up and rely on them to serve justice?

*I've never been in bottle breaking over the head situation but it does happen*

I'm fine with things the way they are, otherwise I wouldn't be ok watching football, hockey, mma, auto racing, or whatever else where there's a chance someone could get hurt.

I'm never ok with throwing at someone's head, or even high on the body. I'm never ok with a pitcher throwing at someone because he's been successful. I'm perfectly fine with drilling someone in the hip/ribs as retaliation for my guy getting intentionally hit. "You hit one of ours, so we hit one of yours, now let's play ball".

Welcome to sports.

My opinion on this situation with Acuna:

Someone from the Braves dugout should've been on Urena almost instantly. Not playing the LET ME AT HIM(please hold me back) game 2 minutes after the fact. If I was Acuna, I'd feel a little pissed that none of my teammates did more.

Edit: and if I was in the crowd, I'd have started the wave!

People don't stay on the bench because there is a rule. They stay on the bench because the penalty for breaking the rule is pretty severe. That's the difference.

I've never been in this situation either, but if I had to defend my brother in the moment to keep him from getting hurt, I of course would, with whatever level of violence was required. I fail to see the relevance of this question.

I probably wouldn't help my brother attack the drunk's friend an hour after the initial incident as retaliation, which is a closer analogy to the typical beanball war. And I damn sure wouldn't risk a serious penalty to retaliate against the drunk's friend.

So what should the penalty be for Urena?

Agreed. Nearly got in a fight at Yankee stadium in the bleachers because I got annoyed at some drunk bleacher creatures trying to start the wave and getting in my face.

It was the bottom of the ninth, runners at the corners and 1 out with the Yankees down by 1.

**** off.
