Matheny won 56% of games, cards fans excited on his firing. Same as it ever was.

Just my opinion, but everything I've ever seen from him screams miserable, humorless douchebag. He's one of those "old-school" meatheads who has the unwritten rules of baseball tattooed on his soul, thinks he knows the way all baseball players should act at all times, and has never met a grievance that a good old-fashioned beanball war couldn't fix.

Then there was a story this week about how he used the vaguely racist Bud Norris to narc to him about which players in his bullpen were not living up to The Cardinal Way™, while opining about the need for veteran leadership within certain "subcultures" on the team. At the news of young players being mercilessly harassed by said narc, he reportedly chuckled, called it leadership, and lamented that the game had gotten soft. This being the same guy who got his fee-fees hurt last year and lectured fans about how they weren't fanning the right way as his team's season was circling the drain.

And for some reason he couldn't get along with Dexter Fowler, by all accounts one of the nicest guys in the game, and hasn't spoken to him in months (meaning it even pre-dates his poor performance this year). Instead he leaks stories to the press and upper management about a supposed lack of effort. He's supposed to be the leader of that clubhouse and he won't even talk to the guy, probably because he doesn't use the proper old-school technique to catch fly balls or smiled too much or something.

The game is just better off without guys like him in it. Of course since he was gifted a playoff-caliber roster on his first job and he didn't immediately **** it up, his record will con someone into giving him another one soon enough.

the crads are a ****ing embarrassment and so is their sanctimonious piece of **** fanbase. for starters missouri, and the midwest as a whole, could be wiped off the face of the earth by an F-50 tornado and we as a species would all be better off

then you have the old school bull**** mentality (see above post) championed by these backwards ass old school ****heads and the entire organization/fanbase holds their nose in the air about how they "respect" the game and how they're the smartest fans ever and how they play the game the right way and blah blah blah

the cardinals hacked the astros, their greatest player in history was a roider, their most prolific player in history also a roider, their manager was an enabler of cheaters and a drunk, there is no team that needs to have their entire history and existence thrown into the ash heap of history like this gaggle of ****sticks

on the other hand if the crads went away i guess the giants wouldn't have a playoff bye round anymore

Literally the only thing reported was that Norris got on Hicks about not showing up on time, something that Hicks was sent to minor league camp for this spring. Seems reasonable.

reports said Fowler is the one who cut off communication and blocked matheny's texts. Still on matheny at the end of the day, but fowler is an adult and shouldn't be blocking his boss' texts.

on matheny losing his job:

Reliever Greg Holland: "Initially, it was a little shocking. As a player, for me, it's, 'What could I have done better to have kept this from happening?'"

this might be the funniest thing I see all year

You know, Greg Holland's 32 years old and we haven't once heard about him berating a rookie or turning his back on the new centerfielder that, um, has a poor "work ethic". You know what I mean..... lacks "effort".... catch my drift?

Come on Greg, you're a nine-year veteran. Either embrace The Cardinal Way or get out.

I was just looking through more Cardinals stuff and I found out their SB Nation fanpage is called "Viva El Birdos". Because why bother to look up the actual Spanish word for bird. That's how Spanish words are created right? You take an English noun, put "el" in front of it, and add a vowel + S at the end to pluralize it. lol seriously can that organization/fanbase do anything without putting their foot in their mouths?

Cubs with the best record in the NL at the all star break. Also most runs scored, highest OPS, 2nd best ERA.

Still a turd team though obviously.

I don't know if it's still the case but as of a couple of days ago, the Indians had BY FAR the biggest division lead in the majors but also had the worst record of the 6 division leaders. They may be ahead of the NL West leader now though.

Having grown up in Missouri and being a cardinals fan, I agree with almost all of this post minus the pujols part. But small mistakes can be overlooked for an otherwise solid post
