You cant shift a guy in the 9th inning of a 7-0 game (implying that his at bat is important) and then get upset because the batter also deemed his at bat to be important and bunts to the spot the you vacated.

If the Twins think the Orioles should have just played it out as per some non-written code, then don't shift, FFS. I mean the shift was the only reason he bunted.

Glad this has been touched upon as this one is so many levels of dumb it's sorta shocking. For starters, they're expecting the other team to just basically not even try, and then the hypocrisy of them shifting against said player is just the cherry on top. It should be surprising, but there isn't a dumber fraternity of athletes than baseball players, it's actually kinda wild to interact with them. And it's not just pros too, it's down to college and high school level.

Are they unintelligent or just indoctrinated? I know what you mean though, baseball players are a different breed.

The latter. My best friend in HS* was super smart, down to earth, to this day one of coolest people I've ever met. He also happened to be the best player on our baseball team and when the season rolled around, or he was around the team, he was a different human. It's legitimately like a cult to be on a baseball team. There's one way of thinking and very often no rhyme or reason to it besides "this is how it's always been".

*Random fact about him- he is the son of Bobby Thigpen, former holder of the all-time single season saves record. In 2005, the year the Sox titled, they took me to Chicago for a weekend in July and I bat boyed every game of the Red Sox/White Sox series (because non-family couldn't sit in the dugout)
