Rose. I think Ted Williams managed 1 or 2 years too.

Modern era. Rose probably won't be topped unless A-Rod takes the reins of the Marlins, which would be awesome. Bringing Bonds back there would be awesome too, maybe even throw in the newly white Sosa to the coaching staff as well.

I wonder if white Sosa would have hit as many home runs as black Sosa.

White Sosa would def be a gritty player.

I hate taking anything away from Stanton. He had such an amazing season. I also hate saying what i'm about to say because i'm a die hard Cub fan and I hate the Reds.

Votto got robbed badly. I follow the sabermetrics. I love stats when it comes to baseball. I'm a stat junkie. Votto was hitting in a lineup where his leadoff barely got on base most the season. And the guys around him were strikeout artists. If you put Votto on the Yankees, they win the World Series. If you put him on the Mariners or the Rangers. Those teams are challenging to be World Series contenders at the least. You put Votto on the Brewers and i'm not sure the Cubs win the division. You put Votto on the Giants and I think one of the Rockies or the D Backs dont get in that Wild Card game.

I hate saying this ****. But its the truth. He got robbed. And I'm happy for Stanton. He had a great year, but shame on the Reds for being so bad. Votto should have a MVP trophy for 2017. I'm told Walt Jockety is making decisions. Walk Jockety needs to get the **** out of Cincy. He's horrible.

Bobby Doerr passed away.

He was a hall of famer who last played baseball 66! years ago.

You can make the same argument for Stanton though.

Some idiot gave Didi an 8th place vote (ahead of Mike Trout). Not surprising he writes for the NY Post.

I was about to write a **** load about Didi Gregorious' trade history, but he's been part of 2 3-team deals and neither of them look particularly interesting to write about. Kyleb involved in the first though!

8th most valuable player in the entire AL? WTF? I'm a Yankees fan and that's absurd.

I just noticed David Price has an opt out after 2018 with $30 mil/year through 2022. There is zero chance he doesn't end up in SF or LA.

Probably close to zero chance he does opt out, unfortunately

So can you guys post small opinions or anecdotes about people with more interesting trade history please?

Harry Chiti. He belonged to the Cleveland Indians and got traded to the expansion NY Mets in April of 1962 for a player to be named later. He played 15 games for the Mets and the Mets decided "No thanks," and traded him back to Cleveland in June. He never played in the majors again but became the first player to be traded for himself.

As embarrassing as that must have been, it's not as bad as John Odom. He was part of the San Francisco Giants farm system in 2008. After an injury he was released and signed with the Calgary Vipers in Canada. But because he had a criminal record, he was not allowed to enter Canada. So the Vipers traded him to the Laredo Broncos for 10 bats. The bats were valued at $665. Odom was so mocked and ridiculed for being traded for lumber that he quit playing baseball a month later.

Jeff Kent seems pretty interesting.

On that note, wow was Jose Vizcaino not good.

I see the stats as showing Stanton was every bit as good as Votto. 7.6 to 7.5 on bWAR.

Is it just Votto's weak lineup that makes you say his contribution was so much more impressive?
