Saw a great post today that teams should agree to intentionally wild pitch the first pitch of every half inning in extras.

For what purpose?

In protest of this dumbass extra inning rule.

Wild pitch. Let runner score. Other team does same. Effectively no rule change.

More protests. Great.

whats wrong with it other than "that aint the way things been done before"

seems similar to the NHL dropping a player in overtime to encourage scoring

I'd hate to see it in the majors, but I think it's fine in the minors. These are mostly kids making next-to-nothing with a terrible travel schedule; I don't think stretching the pitchers extra innings or forcing them into a game they normally would have off is a good thing. I love going to the local single-A games here, but I'm usually done with it by the 7th inning and 2/3 of the crowd has cleared out by then. I know there are lots of affiliates that are really popular, but it's not the norm.

Yes, my presumption is that it's a trial for majors. For minors it's fine.

For majors no thanks. Pace of play issues aren't due to extra innings anyways. If you do need to do something like this then do it in the 12th or something.

Sounds like a dumber idea than the new rule itself.

I'd rather see tie games than the extra baserunner. Both still horrible ideas.

Altuve reportedly signing a 5 year $150mil extension. Seems about right, it would be through his age 35 year.

Shohei struggling juuusssssssst a little. 15ER, 18 hits, in 8.1 innings. 2 for 20 at plate. There is a good chance he starts in the minors, which will push back his FA eligibility a year. Kind of sad thinking how much money he passed on by not hanging out in Japan for a year, but he was kind of arrogant about the 2way thing so whatevs.

In case you missed it,

the (free) 2018 MLB PEEHS Contest is up!

If you're even just a casual baseball fan, you should take the 5 minutes to make an entry and enjoy the reveals all season long.

I remember years ago Brett Hull saying the NHL would be a circus if they switched to 4 on 4 for OT or added a shootout. Wonder what he thinks about 3 on 3 now, because most people I know think it's awesome.

Though I also know people who don't like video replay, because strangely they don't mind human error messing up games.

I'm not necessarily arguing for the extra inning rule, but the notion that this rule is ridiculous is ridiculous. It actually seems pretty cool and as someone who has attended multiple 15+ inning games it would keep fans on the edge of their seats and encourage them to stay the whole game. It's also worth pointing out the obvious health benefits to the teams and players.

I really don't like it. 3rd hitter in the top of the inning not guaranteed to hit is curious.

Kinda surprised to find out this is most $$$ the O's have ever paid a FA Starting Pitcher by per year avg. Hopefully he kept in some sort of shape 8 days away from the start of the season.

Might as well pair that with Rays under 77.5. They're going to get trampled. Colome will definitely be shipped before trade deadline too.

Been on the Rays under. I got it at 78.5. My book has the line at 73.5 now.

I'm actually on every team in the ALE.

Not sure what the Os are trying to do. They're a mediocre team which is gonna lose its best player for nothing next year in a division with two teams they can't realistically hope to catch. I know Angelos is a weirdo but there has to be some kind of plan. Paying a pitcher that's gonna take you from 75 wins to 77 a bunch of money seems like not a good use of resources.
