The Marlins generated about $30 million in ticket revenue last season, but Wolverine projects increases to $37.5 million in 2018 and $40.6 million and $45.8 million the following two seasons.

According to a source, even though the National League announced the Marlins’ attendance at 1.6 million last season, only 820,000 were paid tickets.

Wolverine projects the paid figures to rise to 1.1 million, 1.2 million, 1.35 million, 1.5 million and 1.65 million over the next five seasons.
lol jeets, good luck with that

prolly some shady accounting **** where they'll count revenue vs projections or something ludicrous like that in an attempt to move the team or whatever the hell is happening there

Maybe it's the Sox homer in me talking but what's even the market for JD at this point besides Boston? I know the dbacks want him back but they're poor and you can't put JD and Yasmani Tomas in the same outfield. Toronto has been mentioned but can they pay both Martinez and Donaldson?

Seems really unlikely.

But you can put JD, Peralta, and Pollock in the same outfield.

Wtf are you talking about. There’s essentially zero Cards fans on Cards Twitter that wanted any part of him from the very beginning. I didn’t/don’t really want him unless it’s a super bargain signing. Jedd isn’t much worse and is a zillion times cheaper.

I want Donaldson but seems the trade price is too much.

Cards twitter wants the young pitcher on the Marlins/Rays (don’t remember which). It also does not really want Arietta.

I was mainly referring to the longterm prognosis of the Cards future and how no one wants to play there anymore. They're going to both need a much better farm system and be willing to spend 20m for 10m in value a bunch of times in order to compete.

Farm system is pretty good considering they always draft near the bottom.

Agreed but it's not at a level where you can hope they don't overpay for good players. The value of marginal wins in baseball is incredible, I don't think people properly consider that when evaluating free agents.

Oh I don’t even care if they overpay. They have tons of payroll flexibility. It’s just gotta be an actual and material upgrade and Hosmer for example isn’t that IMO. . Ownership has been very cheap the last few years....embarrassingly so. They should be spending way more cash.

who could they have gotten that would have significantly increased their team for the money? Heyward? Price? Those are the names I remember hearing the most and neither have played well imo

And they have had access to other teams' scouting reports.

I mean the universe of things they could have spent money on isn’t restricted to the things they tried and failed to do. The payroll relative to revenue is a joke.
