GM said it is calculated risk, to try to get him to sign next year or flip him, but they will have to give up either Kopech or Giolito.

Curious why you think that. Kinsler had a poor 2017 but before that had put up 5.0, 5.7, 6.0 and 6.1 WAR seasons. He's not incredible or anything but he's been a solid 2B with some pop and from what little attention I paid it seemed like 2B was a black hole for the Angels last year. His contract isn't even bad, 1 year at $11M.

Why is that? Aren't the cable companies going to be making less money going forward?
Yes but sports are the only reason a lot more people havent cut the cord.people aren't dvrirng sports or watching them on Netflix.Avertisers pay a lot less when they know a lot of people are just going to fast foard through commericals

He’s 36 so expecting a rebound offensively seems unlikely and scoscia’s an imbecile who will place too much emphasis on his preceding seasons so he’ll almost certainly be a mainstay near the top of the lineup

If you traded assets to get a 2 WAR (best case) 2b with next to zero offensive value and are going to get him 4 PAs per game cuz your manager is too stupid to drop him in the order it’s unlikely the decision was a good one

But maybe he rebounds and I look like a fool

Fair enough. I think there is a reasonable chance he puts up 5 WAR and he does have some offensive value. Again last year excepted he’s been able to post a decent OBP with some power.

Last year his BABIP plummeted to .244 without any major changes to his batted ball profile. Actually had the highest hard contact rate of his career. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a 105-110 wRC+ season from him. Nothing incredible but above average.

Also the “prospects” the Tigers received aren’t impressive. So a low risk low cost decent upside deal.

It's weird that he's going to the NL, but the Phillies will be close to even with the "best" in the NL east for '19 and '20. They have no payroll now so they can add.

Red Sox. No need for Cain and I don't want Hosmer.

Moore to the rangers for less

There’s a decent chance Bobby Evans is the worst GM in baseball. I can’t point to a single thing he’s done right

I may have overstated it there, but I'd rather have Hosmer as a Sox fan. He takes the ball oppo with power, and he is a better hitter. The ball is dead early and late in the season in Bos, unlike Ari when JD caught on fire.

I'm afraid Fenway doesn't make much of a difference to hitters who just pound the ball into the ground.

Both Hosmer and JD are awful defenders and both their contracts will probably end up under water, but at least JD is a genuinely elite hitter at this moment. Hosmer has been replacement level for two of his last four seasons and, as I said, wastes his contact quality by hitting ground balls. That's another reason why I don't want him: it seems to me that the Sox have been pretty old school when it comes to hitting last year, with a contact and "get the starter out" approach. Hosmer seems like doubling down on that while JDM would be moving away from it.

Oh, and I just don't wanna see Hosmer's ugly mug on a regular basis.

JD was a great hitter in Detroit, so I'm not worried about how he'd do in Boston.
