Is that why he came now, before news of his injury got out?

Obviously depends on what is meant by damage. Brady Aiken, the number #1 overall pick in 2014, was denied a contract from the Astros because in his physical his UCL showed signs of damage. Aiken is never going to pitch in the majors.

The Angels contract was probably contingent on passing a physical. They could probably cancel the contract, but would be ******s if they did.

Ohtani's physical, which included the damaged elbow was given to every team the day he was posted.

Wasn’t the reason syndergaard refused an mri or whatever because every pitcher will have some damage? Not saying it’s not a big deal but hopefully it’s not.

Saw something that suggested every team knew beforehand. Grade 1 strain, which is apparently pretty mild.

lol marlins fans who believed new ownership wouldn't immediately do what the old one did.

Seriously can we just move this franchise to a real city or something? If they're just gonna keep doing this all the time, what's the point?

LOL MLB for approving that ownership group

i get that stanton's contract is an albatross, injury history, sell high, etc. it could actually be a decent baseball move

but ozuna is a 5 WAR player with arbitration years left!

Stanton's contract was below market. That deal was about working on the Marlins' debt, not about the player.

given that he's owed $25-30M/year until like 2050, it was also about moving the contract while they could

Ship them to Monterrey or Montreal. MLB doesn't work in FL. If the Marlins would have added last year or even this year they would have been competing for a WC, also keeping players away from booger sugar would have helped too.

They sold high?

sure they did, stanton's value will never be higher than it is now

castro is pretty good value, 2 war at about 11M, although war doesnt mean much when you are looking at 60 wins

I think Stanton is capable of a better season than 2017.

I mean I know they "sold high" but usually when you do that you get a very good ROI. They got crumbs. I'm not sure that qualifies.

If Jose Fernandez was still alive would Stanton be a Yankee today?

The Marlins new owner group did overpay for the team. $1.2 bil for a team that draws high school football sized crowds, the last team sold was the Astros 6 years ago for $650 mil. I can't imagine the cable contract was that big, especially with people cutting the cord nowadays.

Nope. Loria would still own the team.
