Morris is 164th. Only 5 HoFers are worse, and one of them is basically in for inventing the curveball.
Clemens is behind them?

Never forget this guy won an MVP: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ernawi01.shtml

His WAR was 4.8.

Another reliever with a 3.4 WAR finished 3rd.

4 players finished with above 7.0 WAR, they finished 4th, 22nd, 22nd, and 27th!!!! in the AL MVP voting.

The person with 27th with one lone 10th place vote: Cal Ripken with a 10.0 WAR.

For lists like that, Bonds and Clemens are basically astrixes because they should be in, but other reasons are keeping them out. I know what you meant

Dude you got so triggered...thus the LOL. Wow you went off like it was crime committed against the Baseball Gods or something that he got in. I mentioned the game because you have to mention the game in reference to his career, but I didn't mean to imply that he was going in based on that game or that he should be in only because of that game.

Also wtf I didn't say anything about opening day starts...damn.

The thing i dont like about the whole process, is why are these guys Hall of Famers now when they werent each of the last fifteen years? But more importantly, since they are Hall of Famers, apparently, why did it take so long to vote them in?

Looking at Morris's stats again, they're just so unremarkable in nearly every way. He had a 3.90 ERA, in an era when league average was 3.91. His FIP was 3.94, so no bad luck there. His walk & strikeout rates are average. His postseason stats are even worse, outside of 1991 where he was legendary over a whopping 23-inning sample size. About the only thing that stands out about him in any way is the number of innings pitched, 28th-most since the dead-ball era & more than anyone in else the 80's, which allowed him to collect a lot of bulk counting stats and make his decidedly unimpressive (for a HoFer) career WAR look more impressive than it really was. He's the quintessential accumulator, a guy who was never really that great, but has a lot of big numbers at the end of his career due to longevity.

So congrats on staying healthy and being average for a long time, I guess. Oh, and pitching for ****ty-enough teams to be opening day starter a lot of times.

The same reason Ortiz’ 8-43 2008 postseason never gets discussed.

Stupid people and their narratives.

Ortiz going to be the next “Morris HOF Entrant”

That's amazing. If he had 15 more RBI he probably gets it too. I need to go find old newspaper articles from that season because I had just started watching baseball around that time and I don't remember Willie Hernandez.

Anyone who knows anything about baseball should he triggered when Jack Morris gets in the hof

The fact he was ever even in the discussion is a joke.

He's close, but I wouldn't even consider him until Edgar gets in.

Jfc those old morons put Morris in?

Wtf is even the point of the stupid hall of fame anyways. I guess put Dwayne Wise and Endy Chavez in too for those catches they made. Jayson Werth has a cool caveman look going, put him in. Billy Hamilton runs fast, put him in now before he runs away.

As usual, Joe Posnanski best explains my thoughts on Morris

I don't claim to have much of an opinion because I never saw him play, except for his one very memorable game,

but "good pitcher," "probably not good in enough to be in the Hall," "but I'm happy for him if he gets in" is about the attitude I have about it.

43.8 WAR in 18 seasons. 105 ERA+

For comparison, David Wells had 53.5 WAR and a 108 ERA+

Bartolo Colon, 47 WAR and a 107 ERA+

So many pitchers that pitched in the 80's that were dominant, but succumbed to the powder.

Just took a closer look at that tweet, holy **** how dumb and terrible is it that Morris got in and Luis Tiant didn't even get a sniff.

I would be happier with Gooden in the hall of fame than with Morris. At least he was elite for a few seasons.

Theo Epstein on talks with the Marlins about Stanton: "There wasn't much interaction given the makeup of our roster, our future payroll commitments and some plans that we have."
