Seems like the mistake was not getting something for him at the deadline last year when he was having a career year, if they were just going to let him walk and get literally nothing in return.

A once proud franchise has become a farm system. Chapman, Cueto, Dunn, Bruce, Frazier all gone. They did get Duvall and Schebler out of their trades but I'm sure they will not be there too long.
