Dunno, but it's at least been inferred that he's interested in creating a unique legacy on a team that hasn't had a previous Japanese star, which would hurt Texas, Seattle and the Dodgers. Guess he wants to blaze his own trail.

I just wanna chime in regarding how fascinating I find the whole Ohtani pursuit to be. Guy asks for bids from every team (unprecedented), doesn’t seem to care about money (unprecedented and just aweosome), and for all we know may be influenced by completely unfounded stereotypes or limited anecdotal evidence (pretty sure I saw a story that Anthony Bass-who never even played for the cubs, told Ohtani he should come here which may, or may not, be an influence). Just really such a unique and fascinating situation.

I will say that no matter where Ohtani goes (knowing it’s not the birds though), I am very much rooting for him to be successful.

Mariners just traded for Dee Gordon... presumably to play CF. Not sure what we gave up but I like it.

Probably just salary relief?

Edit: pretty much

Edit 2: Apparently this guy is one of their top pitching prospects, so maybe not pretty much.

Mariners and Angels each traded a 5th round pick to the Twins. For $1mil in international bonus cash.

Mariners got bonus money in the Dee Gordon deal also. Now have most bonus money of the Ohtani 7.

Do the Braves have any international bonus cash?

I'm sure Ohtani is all but locked up by the Mariners now that he has the opportunity to pitch for a team that not only can brag about having the defensive talents of Nelson Cruz in one corner outfield position, it now has a 29 year old career second baseman with a poor throwing arm locked up for centerfield for several years.

All that is left before Ohtani signs is Seattle has to follow through on their promise to acquire Jose Abreu at any cost to take over their full time catcher duties.

Clown organization.

Braves traded all their money and Jim Johnson to the Angels who then spent it on Maitan.

If recent history means anything, they will probably cash out some bitcoins in
Venezuela to keep up with the other teams.

I will really start to dislike Jimcarrey Stanton if he starts publicly pouting about not playing for a winner. His type of contract hinders teams' long term plans and flexibility, take your money and live it up in Miami bro.
