Wow, when I was a kid, it would be heaven on Earth to be at a big league stadium for 27 innings in a day.

I used to pray to Jesus ****ing Christ that the last game of the night would go extras.

I've never been to a doubleheader. My stepdad would tell me about attending scheduled twi-night doubleheaders in Detroit in the 60s. An absolute dream to me, at the time.

Serious question when do they stop vending beer for a doubleheader?

I've been to one doubleheader in my life - Seattle vs. KC in 2004 (in Seattle). The match up itself was of no importance - both teams were garbage. What was noteworthy is that the 2nd game started 30 minutes after the first game and this was by design. U got to see both games for one ticket purchase.

Do they still do that these days or do you have to buy 2 tickets? So you leave after the first game and have to re-enter with another ticket?

I just looked and we had 3 $20 bets that were live after the Conner one was a push, so in the same ballpark.

Do you recall why they played a DH? I didn't know there had been a DH at Safeco Field.

It usually depends where. Wrigley or Fenway for example, they're going to want two gates. Cincinnati, not as likely.

iirc, it was scheduled that way before the season started and wasn't a make-up game. A way to get a 4 game series in 3 days.

I think this used to be more common in MLB a long time ago.

I've been a baseball junkie since 1997. To the best of my knowledge, there has not been a scheduled doubleheader in that time period.

I found the article for the Royals at Ms DH. No mention of why it was played, but somewhat alluded to it not being on the schedule when the season start. Ichiro had 4 hits that day, breaking 50 for the month for the 3rd time that season, and 206 hits by late August. Randy Winn hit a walkoff HR in the 12th inning of the 2nd game.

The 1943 White Sox played 44 doubleheaders! The 1983 Mariners were the first team of the 20th century to not play a DH in a full season.

the first 2 times i went to a baseball game were both doubleheaders
this is around when scheduled doublheaders started getting phased out

didn't to to another one for probably 25 years. in the last few years i've been to 4.
one was a 4 oclock mets double header at citi field. the yankees had a 1 oclock game. i went to that game too. plan was to stay for the yankees game and get to the mets game late. but the yankees game sucked so we left pretty early and got the the mets game in the first inning.

to 702 guy- most double headers are split double headers where you have to pay for both games and there is a like a 3 hour break inbetween. screw that. i'm talking real double headers.

Weird they had one at safeco.

It's possible a game got rained out at KC earlier that year and the Mariners weren't going to make another KC trip and it wasn't logistically possible for them to go back to KC to make it up (no common off days) so they made it up in Seattle.

edit- just looked it up on baseball reference. a game did get rained out in kc.
in recent years when this happens the orginal home team would still bat second for the makeup game regardless of where it was played, but they weren't doing that yet in 2004 apparently

Yep, in 2007 an entire Mariner four game series got snowed out in Cleveland in April. The Mariners made 3 one game trips to Cleveland on off days, and the Indians were the home team for one game of a doubleheader at Safeco.

I hope it backfires on them and every game goes 14+ anyway because teams keep scoring a single run every single half-inning.

Since it's Bobby Bonilla Day, does anyone think they can rattle off the 8 teams he played for?

Also, the 7th inning stretch beer rule is ******ed. Same goes with the 4th quarter football thing.

114 games with one you're missing. The other one you're missing I feel like you should know.

This season is so doomed to fail I think the expos should be given an expansion team just so they can be in first place again when the World Series is cancelled
