I've never been to a doubleheader. My stepdad would tell me about attending scheduled twi-night doubleheaders in Detroit in the 60s. An absolute dream to me, at the time.
the first 2 times i went to a baseball game were both doubleheaders
this is around when scheduled doublheaders started getting phased out
didn't to to another one for probably 25 years. in the last few years i've been to 4.
one was a 4 oclock mets double header at citi field. the yankees had a 1 oclock game. i went to that game too. plan was to stay for the yankees game and get to the mets game late. but the yankees game sucked so we left pretty early and got the the mets game in the first inning.
to 702 guy- most double headers are split double headers where you have to pay for both games and there is a like a 3 hour break inbetween. screw that. i'm talking real double headers.
Weird they had one at safeco.
It's possible a game got rained out at KC earlier that year and the Mariners weren't going to make another KC trip and it wasn't logistically possible for them to go back to KC to make it up (no common off days) so they made it up in Seattle.
edit- just looked it up on baseball reference. a game did get rained out in kc.
in recent years when this happens the orginal home team would still bat second for the makeup game regardless of where it was played, but they weren't doing that yet in 2004 apparently
