Position players pitching should be in the 9th inning of a 14-1 game though, not in a tie in extras.

That's not how 13+ inning National League games work. But keep on American Leaguing it.

I don't like codified distinctions between pitchers and position players, or efforts to prevent mixing of roles

Big time players participating, especially pitchers, has been discouraged by agents, trainers, and FO's since its inception. Having a retired Doug Fister go out there against some Mexican no names in 4 years seems like the most likely scenario.[/QUOTE]

How about a team of guys, who would have played in the majors if only their high school coach didn't hate them, vs the other countries?

Extra inning baseball is the greatest. I love that baseball is the one major sport where a tied game could literally go on for several more hours.

Don't **** with baseballs rules.

If any type of rules were to be changed, I'd be in favour of having a 2nd or even 3rd DH. You'd have both better hitters and better fielders in the game. Having a DR or 2 could be fun too, a player that has unlimited pinch running substitution capabilities.

Basically I'm in favour of changes that would allow the game to be played at a higher level. Better hitters, better fielders, faster runners.

All this extra inning talk and no Buck/Zach Britton jokes?

Extra innings is the best overtime that exists, it's pure and takes nothing away from the game.

If they wanted to make changes to extra innings, I'd just let games end in ties. I know people need to have a winner, but you get used to ties, and fundamentally they're more fair: Every team gets the same number of innings to settle the score no matter what game it is.

If MLB is worried about game quality after extra inning games, I say just give an extra roster spot to teams for two days after the game, allowing them to bring up a pitcher from the minors to spot start. Aren't they using a reduced-time DL this year? If so, just let them put a pitcher on the 5-day DL or something. This is also unfair to some extent, but it mitigates the problem of running out of pitchers without damaging the game.

I know it will never happen but if they drop a 30-second commercial every half-inning...

I'm an old so still remember attending day games in the summertime that <gasp> weren't televised

Tie if no winner after 15 seems like a reasonable middle ground, though I couldn't quickly find stats on how many games per year that would affect. Much better than starting with a runner on 2nd

Don't think ties make sense there, since they're essentially losses at that point, considering how many 15-inning games there are. I will admit that there are times when I wonder if a team should just stop trying to win at the 15-inning mark (or thereabouts) because of collateral damage for the days ahead, so it might make sense to create some fix there, but I'd think the man on second makes more sense (granting that its all sacrilege, obv)

Interesting(maybe not so much) extra inning story. A few years ago the Dbacks played an 18 inning game on the road...against the Mets if I remember correctly. To "celebrate" the long game, during a home series a week or two later, they did a "any seat for $18" promo. My ticket rep at the time knew I'd want to take advantage, so grabbed me seats to 2 of the 3 games, 2 or 3 rows behind Derrick Hall(president and CEO). Normally ~$150 seats. I even went and chatted with him for a half inning or so. Good times.

One of the craziest hours of baseball I can remember starts at about 1:44

FWIW the commentator says that Choo does that after every pitch, but there were other pitches during that at bat and he didn't do it any of the other times.

Then Elvis Andrus came up with one of the biggest one man fielding choke jobs in history. Odor and Moreland misplaying balls too in one of the worst played defensive innings I've ever seen.

I'm fine with the time of the between inning breaks. David Price taking forever between pitches, and some OCD ****face batters like Marwin Gonzales(I know he's a nobody, 1st name to come to mind) readjusting their gloves between every pitch needs to go.

I am blown away that anyone wants to change extra innings. It's great across the board. The ones that end w a closer in the 10th to the long man pitching the 13th to off day starters in 15th and the a LF saving tomorrow's starter in the 17th. As a matter of fact if you want to change MLB extra innings baseball I feel comfortable assuming you're a ****. Idgaf about milb or winterball so do whatever you can to not ruin arms before theyre making at least a prorated 500k a year

Kinda related to the $ point, another thing that's really surprised me this off-season is how drastically teams are choosing to go w young players/prospects instead of paying 10x more for "floor security". I think the teams were slow to take advantage of the 1/10th cost for 75% of THIS YEAR performance but wtf has the union been doing to allow this to happen? Between the no spending floor/cap they've allowed teams to lowball the vast majority of their members while not colluding, it's just good business afaict. And as a pure guess it's going to get worse as prospects who've specialized and played 100+ games a year from age 10 are both more prepared for MLB at a younger age and possibly show more repetition injuries so they're easier to dump once they're olde(like 29 lol)

Tldr
Tony Clarke is maybe incredibly bad at his job and since ball players are made of pettiness hatred and vengeance he might wanna get his **** together

The vet players are pissed that they got boned in their younger years, so now they feel the youngsters should get boned like they did.

Only rule I'd love to see is getting rid of the shift. You are taught your whole life to hit it in the hole, and now ******* stands there just because you are a pull hitter.
